What can I say good about this hotel? Not much. It is old & basic at best. If the cost was $35 a night, it might be worth it. The restaurant is attractive & good food. The bar area & view of the sea are nice. But I would NOT want to sleep there again.

The best thing about this resort is the breezeway between the large pool and the beach. Fair skinned, so I spent a large portion of my outdoor time sitting and enjoying the breeze. (Sigh...) The hotel is south of San Pedro town, about 10 minutes by golf cart. The staff is excellent, even brought us local fruits and coconuts to try out. You can get a massage, mani-pedi, or enjoy a drink at either bar (one indoor, one outdoor). Be sure to try the "Panty Ripper"!

Room Tip: They have two buildings the A building has an ocean view, but the west wall of the B building has the best ocean views!

We needed to add on a few nights prior to our RCI exchange on Ambergris Caye and picked Banana Beach mainly due to its low price ($85/night for std room) and its proximity to town (20 min walk down the beach).

The hotel is compact and cut from the scenes of Melrose Place with the main pool nestled in the center of one of the buildings. The pool seemed quite warm and lacked breeze unless you sat in the chairs at the open end where the breeze came in. I did spend a lovely 20 min floating on an air mattress in it however. Instead choose one of the many padded lounge chairs that line the bulkhead at the water's edge. These are positively fabulous! The breeze blows over you all day (careful you'll get quite a sunburn as you never feel hot due to the wind). There is a second pool near the entry way but not one you lounge around in.

The room itself was small and clean. We did not have a view, just looked at the Grand Colony pool next door.

The hotel offered "Buy 3 get one night free" but we couldn't take advantage since we only needed 3 nights, so I talked them into a $50 USD restaurant credit instead and had a nice breakfast and lunch including some of my favorite conch fritters of the week.

Walk the beach to town as it is shorter than going on the road and much nicer due to the breeze along the water and mostly bulkhead, walkway, or packed sand path.

Dive the Blue Hole with Amigos Del Mar. All dive operators and fishing guides will pick you up from the dock in front and drop you there at the end of the day - can't beat that service!

We had good meals in town at Elvi's kitchen, Hurricanes for conch fritters and ceviche, Waruguma (for pupusas - try them they are cheap and yummy), sushi night at Blue Water Grill was decent, also if you have a Friday night the benefit chicken dinner from Lions Club in town for $5 is a different option and was super tasty. For cheap eats try Sun Up for fried chicken and rice made to order for $4.

Our best meal was definitely at the restaurant at the Victoria House Hotel - make a reservation and they will come pick you up and take you back afterwards. Their fresh fish (usually grouper or snapper) is heavenly. We also had the bacon wrapped prawns which were delicious. Add the molten chocolate cake for dessert (takes 20 minutes so order it in advance). Their prices were about the same as Blue Water and other places but the service and overall experience make this place stand well above the others. The waitress overheard my husband and I toast to our anniversary and brought us free molten chocolate cake with Happy Anniversary written in chocolate on the plate - we did not order it and had not mentioned our occasion. A nice touch to say the least.

We normally visit the smaller and quieter island Caye Caulker but decided to spend one of our two weeks in San Pedro. Searched for affordable hotels on Ambergris Caye and came across Banana Beach. Couldn't do much better for the price. Resort was right on beach with 2 swim pools to cool off or take a dip in the sea in front of resort. We had a sea view off our private balcony which was nice. Staff was very friendly and when we called maintence for a small issue they were there in a matter of minutes and resolved problem. Very pleased with staff. Some of the fixtures were dated and corroded from the salt air, but all in working condition.Banana Beach is about a mile(walking distance) to main part of town, where it is much busier, so it was nice to stay just outside town where it was much quietier. We stayed 5 nights in which they have specials, stay 3 get one free night with discount on additional night, which made this resort one of the best values on island. If we return to San Pedro we'll definately return to Banana Beach.

We spent ten nights at Banana in B216 beachfront and enjoyed every minute of our stay. The staff went out of their way to help us in every way, And always had a smile. For the price we were extremely happy, The rooms are older,But very clean. The kitchen served us well. Enjoying a glass of wine on the deck in the evening listening to the waves break against the sea wall was very relaxing.
Martini Mondays in El Divino was a blast, Romeo, And Manuel make a great drink, And talking with the locals made us feel like home. Our only regret was we couldn't stay longer.
