“One of the most relaxing easy short vacations ...”
Reviewed 16 May 2012

This was our first visit to Barnsley Gardens - shame on us! We should have started going 20 years ago.

It was a really cool cottage type house resort. Couple really nice restaurants - awesome looking golf course - amazing pictures in the gardens and the ruins. Lots of history and only about an hour from Atlanta... right up 75 North. My wife and I each did a massage and hung at the pool - no kids during the week and not overcrowded at all. Great attention - everything was easy - also large fire pits you can utilize all over the resort. I also got a couple nice golf shirts. We live 90 miles from there - had someone watch our teenagers while we took a couple nights at Barnsley.

By the way take the all inclusive option like we did - it saves you $$ and makes it even more relaxing.

Room Tip: Take a map with you when you walk the gardens - you might be surprised how close you are to your cot...

I promise I'll add more details about the resort, rooms and gardens further down in my review so please bear with me as I rave about the SHOPPING at Addie's Boutique! I've traveled and lived all around the U.S. and seldom have I found such a well-curated selection of "must haves" tucked into a cute little corner! And Marka, the retail manager, is a delight! She truly understands both the shopping experience (discoveries tucked into every little nook and cranny) as well as true style (she'll help you find items that suit YOUR body, size and coloring.) I spent at least 2 hours trying things on, adjusting shoes and accessories, and just talking to Marka! If you plan ahead with a group of girlfriends, I'm sure you could schedule time with Marka for an image workshop--and it would be well worth your time. Love, love, loved shopping here! (Steps off soapbox.)

Oh wait, more raves...the gardens and the manor house...just beautiful! There is so MUCH to explore! Allow yourself time to discover all of the different garden areas...from the formal garden in front of the manor house to the woodland gardens and meadows. The manor house itself is a photographers dream...a beautiful aged brick and wood ruins, than may have more beauty in their current incarnation than in the original form.

I loved the way the sleeping rooms were arranged in various cottages (and I believe all of the rooms have a shared living/common space of some sort.) The entire resort is laid out like a quaint village rather than a typical hotel or resort. Although I was traveling alone for this trip, I thought it would be fantastic to come back with family and take advantage of the croquet area, bocci games and fire pit. (I'll post separate reviews of the spa and woodland grill.)

There are so many accolades, but it comes down to this: Barnsley Gardens has SO much to offer, it is the perfect getaway retreat. With an on-site spa, beautiful gardens, great common space (and don't forget Marka!) it would make an idea girlfriends weekend!

ADM_BayArea: Thank you so much for your review of Addie's Boutique! It is a new addition at Barnsley (just this last year) and we have had such a great response.

Also, I'm thrilled that you were able to spend time with Marka during your shopping experience. I know she'll be happy she was able to help you find something you couldn't live without.

We hope to see you again soon!

Warmest Regards,
Jennifer Ball

This bucolic village is a wonderland. We found this on the internet and took a chance. Our garden cottage was everything you could ask for. We chose to stay in the rear of the property near the hiking trail. It was so quiet but not inconvenient at all. The two resturants offer both casual and finer dining . We stayed 5 nights and never left the resort. The food was excellent in both venues. The only "moment" we had was on slow service in the fine dining one evening. We spoke to the mgr and it worked out well on all of our other nights. The food was divine!!
Their are carriage rides and great entertainment for kids.
We would recommend this gorgeous resort to all of our friends.

We were there for two days, two nights. The service was terrific-- very attentive and personal. The accomodations were wonderful--spacious, great amenities, really well maintained, etc. Gardens and grounds are beautiful. We did the weekday special and that included a spa treatment for each of us.-- a terrific value. Only one restaurant was open-- not haute cuisine but very good food again at very reasonable prices.

It was a dream stay! Iwas so surprised! The FairyGodmother had Happy Anniversary Balloons waiting when we walked in to our Honeymoon Cottage! Firewood enough for a wonderful fire that could go on all evening and left over for many other fires! The claw foot tub was wonderful! The service excellent! They delivered everything immediately! You call they come and bring whatever you want! Beautiful surroundings and very quiet! I will always remember a Dream Anniversary! Food and drink excellent! We really thought we were the only ones there!

Room Tip: Get a cottage they are a dream!
