It’s been four years since our last stay at Avila Village Inn. My original review gave
this place a well-deserved 5 stars. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case. The rooms are the same as in 2013. Exactly the same. Same furniture, same beds, same everything. And all of it needs to be replaced. Oversized furniture in an undersized room makes for a cramped situation. Paint was peeling on walls all around the room. Mostly from furniture hitting the walls. The armoire is too big, with a tv on top, leaving he open media area empty, except for 2 water bottles and the hotel services book.
The free continental breakfast that was offered in 2013 is gone. Now, you can order room service from the athletic club across the way, or get a 10% discount on breakfast at the general store nearby.
WiFi went from unavailable to non-existent during our visit. When I called the front desk about this I was told it was not working, and that when it was back up it probably wouldn’t reach our room. When the WiFi did work in the lobby, it was spotty at best.
We arrived at the inn just after 1pm on a Sunday. When I asked about checking in (early, yes), I was told they would not be checking people in until 4pm. So now we had to waste three hours after driving five hours, before we could check in. The front desk women were not the most welcoming either.
All-in-all, this visit was a bit of a disappointment. I’m not one to complain about rates, but Avila Village Inn is not a value hotel. Their rates on a Sunday are still over $200. With the cut backs, lack of WiFi and desperate need of refurbishment, the Inn is no longer worth the premium.
