Point San Luis Lighthouse is the only remaining one of three that were alike and it's worth the trolley ride to see and get a sense of the history of not just the light house but the area.

While riding our bikes to the old pier from the beach we passed a fenced in area with two trollies sitting inside the fence line and signs advertising the lighthouse tour so we went on line and booked it.

They only have tours on Wednesday's and Saturdays at a cost of @ $ 20 per person but well worth the money. The tours hours are at 1100, 1300 and the final tour is at 1400.

Stan, our tour guide and docent, was extremely versed in the history and you can tell he loves sharing it with everyone.

The views are incredible on the drive to and from as well as from the lighthouse. The history and preservation of it are worth the trip. It's one for all ages.

It's worth the trip to Point San Luis to enjoy this peaceful site. It's so peaceful in such a busy world.

Hike out with a docent led trip or rent a kayak at the port st. Luis to paddle over to the beach to climb the stairs to the lighthouse. There is also a trolley that provides limited service for a fee on the weekends. Take the tour if you have the time. Lots of local history to learn with a nice view.

This is a good experience. The driver is knowledgable, and funny. The lighthouse has been lovingly restored and the docents most friendly. Interesting subject of course, glad we went

The Point San Luis Lighthouse tour is a nice activity, overall. Guests can take a trolley ride from a parking lot across from Olde Port beach or go on a guided hike up to to the lighthouse. The road to the site is very windy through some lovely terrain. Your guide on either the trolley or the hike will give historical info about the area, the lighthouse itself, and the people who were influential in creating it and keeping it going.

Whether you take the trolley or hike is really weather dependent. It happened to be very hot on the day of our visit. The trolley is not air conditioned and the hike would have been very strenuous in over 80 degrees heat and sunny weather. Hike would be pleasant for those in very good shape. Wear appropriate hiking shoes. It is more of a hike than a leisurely a walk. The trolley is recommended for most people who are not up for strenuous activity.

The lighthouse itself is interesting. There is a video at the start of the tour that illustrates the history of it. A guide takes guests to the actual lighthouse after the video and you have around 20-30 minutes to cruise around and see the living area and go up to the top of the lighthouse via a narrow staircase.

The views of the beautiful Central Coast are outstanding. Great photo opportunities. Bring water and or snacks as neither are available on site.

Thanks for the informative review! Just a heads up that water and snacks are indeed available for sale in the gift shop. Our tours usually take around one hour, in which a docent leads guests around the historic site. Although we work closely with the Pecho Coast Trail Guides, the hike itself is under their management and so reviews for the hike should be directed towards their organization. Thanks again!
