Big Olaf's has many things going for them - quality ice cream, ideal location, and the sea breeze wafting the delicious smell of waffle cones around the crescent area.
Despite all of these things, I was quite disappointed once I stepped in the door during our recent visit. Here were the glaring problems we witnessed:
- The place is in serious need of a deep cleaning. Surfaces were sticky and there was a general feeling that it had not been cleaned in a long time.
- The menu offerings/prices are hard to figure out on the hanging boards. Having a easier to read menu board would help expedite the line.
- The cones were in a large trash bag on the back shelf. No matter what cone desired (sugar, cake, or waffle), the employee reached into this bag to grab a cone out to use. It was full of broken pieces and looked like it actually was trash. Any other type of storage container would have looked better - even a plastic bin.
- The employees were harsh and impatient, even though we were there on a very quiet Thursday afternoon.
It was sad to experience a place we've been going to for over 20 years in such a negative light. With just a little bit more care, Big Olaf's could be nice again.
