“Great value”
Reviewed 22 February 2012

We stayed here three nights in February 2012, and thought it was excellent. The rooms were a good size, the bed was comfortable, and the walk to Disneyland was short. There were plenty of places to eat within walking distance too.

The hotel staff I dealt with were all very friendly, and the nightly rate was pretty reasonable.

I liked the fact that there were free-to-use computers in reception, the portacot / crib was free for our young son, and the room came with an easy to use coffee machine (my wife would have liked it if tea had been supplied for the machine as well, but in fairness you could buy this from the on-site shop).

The pool area was good too, although our son was a bit young to use most of it (he was 22 months at the time).

If we were to visit Disneyland again we'd definately stay here again.

While it isn't the most luxurious hotel I've ever stayed in--there are definitely some signs of its age, in our case most particularly the cracks in the bathroom tiles, and some chipped cabinets, the staff here is so good that I would absolutely stay here again. I payed extra for a firework view room (well worth it in my opinion) and when the hallway of the first room smelled strongly of curry (not their fault, of course) they moved us to another lower down. The smell would have gone away, but we were recovering from the flu and I just couldn't handle it in the meantime. The room they switched us to was lower and we really wanted the view, so I requested a higher floor, which they agreed to let us move to a couple of days later into our 7 night stay. I mention all of this, so I can say how unfailingly patient all of the front desk help was in dealing with my pickiness, specifically Chris and Greg. Later, Daniel helped us look for my daughter's Ipod that we thought she had left behind, getting down on hands and knees to look under the beds. This was all during a very busy 3 day weekend.

The rooms themselves are nice--nothing special, but perfectly comfortable, and after years of staying in hotels where you had to take a shuttle to Disneyland, it's so nice to be able to truly be within walking distance; it just allows us a lot more flexibility. The gift shop has very reasonably priced food and drinks, and there is so much room in the way the buildings are laid out it feels more like an apartment complex than a hotel. Overall, a great place to stay when you are going to Disneyland!

Room Tip: Worth paying for the view rooms if you like fireworks.

We were delighted at the easy, short walk to the park. My husband timed it as 10 minutes from our hotel room to the security bag checkers. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were quiet. The only thing that would make the place any better was if they offered a continental (better) or full breakfast (best). But we had a microwave, coffee pot and fridge. With instant oatmeal and a banana we were out the door quickly to enjoy the park. The rooms were large and clean. Happy to have found Hojo! We will be returning!

Room Tip: We asked for a quiet room and was told the rooms were sound proofed. Ours was on the sixth floor fac...

This hotel is not fancy, or new. In fact, they take pride in their "Retro" look and feel. If you are looking for luxury, go somewhere else, but if you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel within a 10 minute walk of Disneyland, you can't go wrong here. The hotel has something I like that i really can't identify. It is older, the rooms really need new carpets, they don't have flat screen TV's, and you can get closer to Disneyland. But, if you want an inexpensive hotel that really does have a resort feel, this is it. The grounds are beautiful with flower beds and fountains, and they have the water park, and the other pool, the rooms are not fancy, but clean, and they have a wide variety to choose from. They have the original 7 story tower with great rooms facing Disneyland, and very inexpensive rooms facing the highway on the other side. They have a newer four story building by the Garden Pool, if you need more bathroom space, this is your building. The others are two story buildings around the property. If you don't want noise, stay away from the side of building 4 on the hot tub side. If you want to see the pretty Garden Pool and still have privacy, Building 6 is your place. The Disney view rooms in building 1 really do have a view now since they have taken down a lot of the trees. You still see trees from some of the rooms, but it is much better than is used to be. Those rooms face west, so can get warm in the afternoons. If you are staying in the top floor of the 2 story buildings, be aware that some rooms in the tower can see into your room at night, so be mindful of that. The new Pirate Suites are probably the best value, they are on the highway side of tower 1, but are really like two rooms for only slightly more that one room. And they do have flat screens because they are newer. I have stayed here almost every year since, wait for it, 1985! The staff are all friendly and accommodating, and will help you with everything from theme park tickets to tours. They have self serve laundry, so we always pack light. Mimi's restaurant next door is very good, although more expensive then they use to be. The water playground is very popular with young kids although I miss the pool that used to be there. My only complaint is that the nice large hot tub is right next to it, and since the water isn't heated for the kid's playground, the kids are constantly in and out of the hot tub. This if frustrating to me since i really would like to relax and visit with adults in the hot tub. The garden pool is nice, usually not warm enough, but nice to sit and read and get away from Disneyland for a rest in the middle of the day. They have a small store with food items, etc, but it is quite expensive. Annual pass holders get 10% off though. All of the rooms have a balcony, which is really unusual in this area, and very nice! Even the Disneyland hotel doesn't have them anymore. We love to come back from the park for a break and enjoy reading in the balcony. The McDonald's on the way to the park is handy for a cheap meal, everything is always hot because they are very busy. This hotel is not the closet to the main gate, but it is worth the extra few minute walk. It is about 10 minutes to the ticket counters at Disneyland, about 6 minutes to the the closet hotels to the park. Those hotels are right across the street, but you still have to walk into the park, which is about 4 minutes from them. They are all motel style, and are long an narrow and the view is of another long and narrow building. With all of the walking at Disneyland, a couple extra blocks at the end of the day isn't much to think about. It is easy to stop and get something to eat and bring to the room too. I prefer buildings with inside corridors, which is one of the reasons I like Hojo! They have a lot of discounts that you can find on their discussion boards, so it can be much less to stay there than almost anywhere else. I hesitate to even write a review about this note, but I guess it's time for me to share :) Be prepared for a family oriented, clean, not elegant, but comfortable hotel with good beds, and you will love it here!!! It is a family hotel, and the doors close loudly by themselves, so the hallway noise can be bad in the mornings sometimes. The A/C is noisy too, but helps to cover up the hallway noise. I never hear the people next to me though.

Room Tip: If you don't want to be up with the sun, don't get a room on the top floor of the tower, or...

If you travel to Disneyland, you have got to stay here, it is a very special hotel. The design of the hotel dates to the early to mid 1960's which makes it fun and cool. The beds are unbelievable! My kids loved everything about this hotel. Planning a 7 night trip next time we go!
