The worst part of California is the dirty, city look... This hotel makes you feel like you're tucked up in the woods completely away from all the dirty stinky city. Seriously I could never have anything bad to say about this hotel. The quiet lodge with the massive fireplace is the perfect place to wind down after a crazy disney day, I could sit in those rocking chairs in front of the fire for hours! I've been in a lot of 5 star, $500 a night hotels and this one is absolutely unmatched.

We usually stay at the grand californian when we go to Disneyland in LA>
It has an own access without waiting too long and you can actually see the nightly fireworks from your room in summer, which is very nice.
The rooms are not really exceptional, quite on the small side and very tiny bath, however comfy and good beds and very good service.
we upgraded to the lounge and the free food throughout the day and the special service is worth the extra money. The buffets were sometimes very crowded.
The swimming pool area was very nice with excellent lounge chairs, very very clean and very supportive staff. HIghly to recommend for children as well and it was very nice to have a swimming catch up during lunch and then head out to the parks again later.

All the hotels are really close together though and we always felt very safe walking everywhere, even at night.
Also when staying at a Disneyland hotel you get free passes to enter the parks before the public and that is amazing.
All in all we really enjoyed it and definitely will be back.

Room Tip: the upgrade to the lounge is worth it! Also book a room toward disneyland and see the fireworks on...

This hotel is wonderfully convenient to the California Adventure Park (it is great to be able to pop in to change if you get wet in the park, or to take a break for a swim during the day). It is also comfortable and the service, as with everywhere in Disney, is excellent. But you do pay for what you get, and it is quite steep.

I have only given four out of five because for me, the two most important aspects of a hotel like this (ie attached to an adventure park), is the quality of rest, and how well you can clean yourself after a long day in the park. I have no quibble with the bed, I had a great rest, and the children slept well too. However, the water pressure is so pathetic that I found the getting clean part difficult, and the whole shower/bath experience far from five star. Disney aim to conserve water, which is a noble goal, but I think there is a balance to be had between guest comfort and conservation. The water pressure is the lowest I have ever experienced. I have thick hair and to clean it was such a chore under the trickle that came out of the shower head, that I dreaded having to wash it. I have experienced low pressure heads before but this was something else! The irony was that I spent three times as long in the shower, and then followed that up with a bath (in the very tiny bath - and I say that as a very tiny person!) on the days I had to wash my hair, just so I could rinse out the shampoo and conditioner adequately. I would say that without pressure to aid the cleaning process, I ended up using more water than at home. The other irony was that in a hotel that had a focus on water conservation, the faucet leaked while the shower was running and the shower head itself lost part of the flow to dribble - both reducing the shower head pressure even further. To top it off, the waste leaked while we had the bath full, so we had to have the faucet running a little constantly to keep the level of the bath water up. That is my only quibble, but the bathroom situation was such a downer on my holiday, I would think twice before staying at this hotel again.

Tip: Unless you want to have a character breakfast, instead of having breakfast at Storytellers Cafe (which is very pricey) go to Whitewater Snacks. Same food, more realistic portion sizes (ie not huge - in a good way) and quite literally a quarter of the price. And the staff there are absolutely lovely.

Location! Location! Location! This is the main reason we keep going back and paying at least twice as much as comp. hotels around. The minute you drive through the gates, you're in a new world, a Disney world where you can let go and fully enjoy the experience. The decor is rustic, feels like a National Park Lodge and it's great, they carry he theme in the rooms and public spaces. Various activities available , my kids loved story time help twice a day in the lobby, while we enjoyed a drink and the resident pianist a few feet away. Love the private entrance, the convenience of having a room right next to the river rapids, as it is colder in CA than FL, and you will get wet! The rooms are adequate, service is up to par. I tried the buffet once and really did not like it, but we usually eat in the park or by the pool. ( I recommended the nachos, plenty to go around for more than one pp) Also, the pool and the hotel lobby are perfect for people watching and... you never know who you're going to see!

Room Tip: book a standard room, get there early and hope for an upgrade! (we got one every time)
