We came from San Diego especially for this restaurant. We had to get our fill of Romanian food. This is indeed truly authentic Romanian food. It is a restaurant in a small unassuming strip mall. It is decorated with authentic Romanian ceramics and crafts and sometimes they have live entertainment here.
There are no shortcuts here (except for the bread), this is home cooking for sure. We started with the boeuf salad, which is similar to potato salad but way better and includes chicken (actually more similar to the Russian Olivier salad). We also had the pickled vegetables, which included cauliflower, carrots, cabbage, etc. it really opened up our palates, it was so tasty.
Next we had beef soup, where either soup or salad was included in our entree. They were generous with the beef in the soup, bowl size. The stuffed cabbage has the pickled cabbage as it should, with 6 on an entree with yummy polenta (mamaliga), sour cream and a green hot pepper, I think an Anaheim pepper.
We went home with extra to go orders of the stuffed cabbage and the mititei (skinless sausages). Always a treat to come here, the food is delicious, authentic, a great value and transforms us back to Romania, at least for a couple of hours. Highly recommended and we look forward to our next visit already.
