So if you want to catch a movie before everyone sees it, this is the place. The popcorn is unusually tasty. The theatres are all clean and the seats are in excellent condition. Parking is easy and close by.

The Alameda Theater is right where it should be, on Central Ave, in the middle of the town. Once it would have held a couple hundred people comfortably in a large, purple velvet hung auditorium. Now each of its six small theaters holds a couple dozen at most, each lost in its own world.

After a few years now, we are still enjoying the revitalized Alameda Theatre, the movies, the local community, and the related food and fun. The renovated old theatre is its heart and center, and the new theatres make it modern and relevant. Snacks and the movie + dinner, or movie with dinner options are great too. Yet another reason to "not leave the Island". :-)

Why are the Previews so LOUD? My friends and I always plug out ears during the intros and Ads for films...it's been going on for a long time in different theaters. Are all the kids deaf now from listening to their ear buds up loud? It verges on assault sometimes. Been going as a regular customer for 6 years now and it's an ongoing problem.
Real sick of the corny cartoons about cell phones and the music used—it's garish, the weird synth clarinet noise. I like a lot of the music at the Grill so I wish THOSE ads were longer and really showed some of the local musicians more than a nanosecond.
And I suspect quite a few of the theaters have blown speakers because during the films my friends and I are asking each other..."what did they just say...?"
I'm a musician so I am especially sensitive to sound.
The Theatre is great in general, clean and nice seats...but 5 bucks for a bag of popcorn is Robbery.
Also wish there was a venue for small Independent Films at least sometimes, but I know those don't sell like the Tom Cruise crap does.
Be nice if there were some really great music played at the beginning as we sit and wait (sometimes we go way early to get the best seats) ....I mean great as in Beethoven and Mozart to Miles Davis, or even the best 60s Pop and Rock music. I hate Elevator filler music.

Built in 1928 and restored on 2008, this is a perfect example of the grand movie palaces of the early 20th century. Amazing.

Just a beautiful piece of architecture with first run movies.
The lobby is fully restored as well as the main theatre. If your movie isn't in that one, look in anyway.

This theatre has a nice art deco style. I like to come here for movies on discount night Tuesdays and I also like to have food and drinks from cinema grill sent over while we watch the movies. FUn!

Alamedians are so grateful that this theater was refurbished. It offers a cozy atmosphere and comfy seats. You can book in advance and select your seats or chance it at the box office. It's also an awesome place to view sports such as basketball finals when the Warriors play. Check it out!
