Other than being within walking distance to things around the Capitol Building, I'm not sure why this hotel is a category 6. The location was great but there was nothing specacular about the hotel itself. It's a typical Residence Inn that charges $30 a day for parking.

The check in was quick and the staff was friendly. The rooms were clean with the typical Marriott decor. The touch screens in the lobby make finding your way around DC very convenient.

They offered complimentary breakfast that left you wanting to find the nearest cafe. If you're visiting DC, there are plenty of better places for breakfast.

Next time, we would likely sacrafice the full kitchen for a smaller room at the JW Marriott in DC.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the Capitol

We stayed for a week in early May and the location was great and the dining room staff were excellent. We did have a major problem getting hot water for showers during busy times, nights and morning. We called the desk three times complaining, but no improvement. This made it difficult to plan bathing and hair washing, etc. Who wants to sit around for a couple hours waiting for hot water to return when on vacation. Our room was at the end of the hall and apparently at the end of the hot water line. Aside from this major problem, hotel was very good.

Great hotel, great service from beginning to end. We had a large and quiet suite on the 7th floor, and a full kitchen that we didn't use, because there wasn't any time for it! So much to do in DC! The room was very nice and clean, and we very much enjoyed the full breakfast offered. They served a good variety of breads, potatoes, meat, fruits, yogurts, juices, and make your own waffles. Most people seemed to love those, but not so much to clean up after themselves. The staff however is wonderful at keeping everything clean, and food stocked, very attentive. At the dining room, the service was great, they keep the tables turning fast, and are super friendly! They also offer an evening reception, free, sounds great! We didn't have the time to try one. There is a convenient business desk and a small store by the lobby for a late night snack. The front desk recommended an excellent limo service - Doyle - in case you need a ride to town or the airport. The location was absolutely perfect. Close to the main attractions and the Mall, so we walked everywhere! A couple of times we took a cab back, just to make it simpler - it can save your feet for more walking the next day. We plan to go back next year, it's already decided we're staying at the Residence Inn again..

Overall, a great stay at the Residence Inn. My husband was in town for a conference so my 6-year-old daughter and myself tagged along. We stayed for a week. We travelled by red eye and arrived at Reagan Airport at about 7:30 a.m. Hopped on the metro and was at the hotel in no time. It is just a couple blocks away from the Federal Center SW stop. Needless to say, we were tired, but they were able to check us in! The free breakfast was still going on (til 10 on weekends) so we ate and then went to our room to nap for a couple of hours.

Our room was 1111 – a one bedroom suite. Everything was very clean and in good shape. Kitchen was basic, but that didn’t matter as I was on vacation and didn’t plan on cooking at all. Lots of outlets for our myriad of electronic gadgets, comfy bed and good shower. Windows looked over to office building, but that didn’t matter – I don’t expect a view in DC. Even though the room was close to the elevators, it was very quiet. Ocasionally heard the train, but it wasn't often and it wasn't late at night.

Breakfast buffet was pretty good. Seating area was larger than other hotels like this. We never had to search for a table. Other places I’ve been we’ve either had to wait or take the food to our room. Food was pretty good and decent variety – cereals, toast, bagels, English muffin, waffle machines, eggs, yogurt, fruit and oatmeal. Rotated a few items throughout the week including … pancakes, sausage patties, potatoes, sausage, egg and peppers scramble (I really like this!) Beverages included milk, juices and coffee, which was actually pretty good! They did have a dinner on a few of the nights, but we missed them.

Overall, service was wonderful. Front desk was always helpful and the servers in the buffet area were extremely friendly. I was there on Mother’s Day and everyone we passed wished me a Happy Mother’s Day.

I didn’t use the workout room because I did enough walking to make up for it, but it was a decent size and had a good selection of machines / weights. Did use the indoor pool once. There is a also a hot tub. Right outside the pool is a nice outdoor patio area with a BBQ.

While the location was great for getting to the museums, metro, etc. I can understand what other reviewers have said - there is not a lot in the area for dinner. This really wasn't a problem for us as we had picked out some great places to eat throughout the city, but I could see where this could be a downside for some.

Overall a great stay. I would definitely return and recommend this to family and friends!

Stayed 2 nights in May for a family trip to DC. Location is safe, but not a lot of options for dining. Smithsonian is easily walkable, even for 6 - 10 year olds. We had a 2 bedroom room which was perfect, quiet and clean. Breakfast was great, with lots of food available.

Room Tip: Take a south side room to avoid the train noise.
