The Tombs is the official Georgetown University Hometown pub (as testament by Alumni throngs unanimous return) - and continues to be a must for brunch, lunch or casual dinner while visiting the Hilltop! The patina of generations of Hoyas is worn into the bar, booths and brick walls like a favorite pair of khakis, Polo shirt and boat shoes! Food, service and decor is all 100% classic- with a preppy sense of tradition. Plenty of choices- from draft beer selection to great pub fare. You just can't say you went to Georgetown without a stop at The Tombs!

We stopped in for a drink after dining upstairs in the elegant 1789 Restaurant. The two could not be more different. The Tombs has a much older history and has not let the more upscale sister restaurant change it.

I can imagine why college like it so much, kind of funky with the aroma of fried food everywhere. We were way too over dressed but still had to have one drink just for the heck of it.

This is a classic college pub on the edge of Georgetown University. It has been featured in Hollywood movies. It has a wide selection of beers and drinks. The bar is small and intimate. The subteranean restaurant is casual, blondewoodtables and chairs on hardwood floors with brick walls and rowing decor. The staff are usually college kids, friendly and enthusiastic. The food is average pub grub, stick to the basics and it can be satisfying. The prices are reasonable. Part of the Clydes group. The very upscale 1789 Restaurant is next door, part of the same group and a complimentary sister restaurant.

My son graduated from Georgetown and we got to see his favorite hangout. They knew him by his name. This is a small restaurant/bar that is a favorite hangout for GT students. I know why, good food and good drinks! Thanks Tombs for feeding Heath Dickey while he was away from home and making us feel at home while there ! Hoya-Saxa

Spent way too much time at the Tombs while attending Georgetown. 30 years later returned with my family to show them the area, the school, and the Tombs. It certainly didn't disappoint, right down to the free dessert for our kids to help them count for what she recognized was a "surreal" experience for their father! A timeless gem in Georgetown.
