We started out walking down to the Jefferson Memorial and since it was the beginning of the Cherry Blossom Festival, it was extremely crowded, which made it hard to walk on the sidewalks. The sidewalks are in rough shape, so you have to be mindful of your steps plus there are a few places where the limbs are sagging down. The blossoms were not quite open, but it was still beautiful. There are great views of the Washington Monument and Tidal Basin.

It was a cold and cloudy day but it did not take away from the beauty of the blossoms and the monuments around the basin.

We walked around the Tidal Basin during the Cherry Blossom festival in 2018. We were about a week early some many blossoms were not in bloom yet but were beginning to bud. The indicator tree (on the way to Jefferson) blooms about 10 days prior to the "peak" and was in bloom when we were there. We decided not to travel Haines Point since the blossoms were not out and rather walked around the Tidal Basin. Be sure to check out Jefferson, FDR & MLK memorials. Close to the FDR is the Japanese Pagoda (a gift from Japan) and further up the path check out the Japanese Lantern (oldest structure in DC-built 1651). Also , right near the Cherry Blossom tents is the Floral Library. Again we were too early but if you are there in spring and love tulips-check it out.

There is a beautiful trail that goes around the entire Tidal Basin with great views of Jefferson and Washington Monuments. Perfect if you hit it during peak cherry blossom bloom!

We were there the last week of March and the cherry blossoms were just starting to bloom. Walking around the tidal basin was peaceful and not crowded at all. Got a few good pictures of the cherry blossoms - some were more in bloom than others - but in a way I was glad it wasn't the peak season as the crowds I've heard are massive!
