Near Silver Bay is Tettegouche State Park, the exit is right off the main highway. It has a brand new visitor center, which was really nice. I stopped at the park to hike to falls. (High Falls) While the maps and the signs show hike of just over a mile and a half, what it does not tell you that there are significant gains and drops in elevation. Much more than I expected. Indeed, the hike back to the falls reminded me more of hikes in the Rocky Mountains. While not a difficult hike, it is not an easy hike. The trail is well maintained. When I visited it had just rained and parts of the trail were muddy. Hiking boots are highly recommended. The trail, the woods, and the falls are terrific. I'd go back there in a heart beat. The park has lots of trails, camp grounds, everything you'd expect. Two small towns are nearby and there are plenty of places for food, supplies, gas or rooms.

We've traveled to the North Shore 5 - 10 times a year for more than 20 years. This is a great stop as they've constructed the nicest State Park building for visitors. The falls are a gradual hike. Dragonflies populate the area at the base of the main waterfall. We hike Tettegouche year round. There are longer hikes with great views and those are worth doing if you have the time and stamina.

Tettegouch is a wonderful state park with many options for hiking. The visitor center is a comfortable place for a rest after your hike or to get info before. You can park free at the visitor center and start your hike there. We went to shovel point and Cascade Falls. Both have breath-taking views! The hikes are moderate in difficulty. I had a great time spotting many different varieties of mushrooms.

We were at the state park for 3 days. We had site #30. The 27 foot camper was on level ground but the truck was not. It kind of made it weird to back in the camper since it was up hill. The high falls was beautiful but there were quite a few steps. My dad wanted to see the swinging bridge to see if it was like the swinging bridge at Jay Cooke State Park, it is not exactly the the bridge at Jay Cooke. It is older and did sway more. We also went to the Two falls which was much steeper than the High falls. The staff seem friendly in the new visitors center. All in all it was fun.

This electric site sits on a slight incline. When it rains, the water runs right through the campsite in front of where the door on your camper would be positioned. This site is sadly lacking in gravel and the site turn into a mud puddle. We've camped there for two years now, and won't reserve this particular site again. Recommend Site 26E - it's nice and flat.
