The criterion is in a great location surrounded by many restaurants and right by the Four Square.
We were on the second floor which meant we sometimes heard a few bangs from the people above but nothing troublesome. We had a nice view of the water from our balcony, im sure it would be even better from the third floor.
The room was spacious and clean with all the expected amenities. We found the bed very comfortable and it was lovely and big. The tv had plenty of channels on offer if needed.
The only negative was that the wifi was quite poor and constantly dropped out.
There was plenty of parking and we were given a warm welcome when we arrived.

Hi, Gernita24!
We are so glad that you were pleased with your room. Our aim is to make you as comfortable as possible, whether it be providing you with our complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits, toiletries of superb quality, or Sky TV - our goal is to make it all perfect for our guests. Our apologies that the wifi was slow, despite having various wifi boosters around the building (some rooms even come provided with their own modem), the servers can be overloaded at times if a lot of people are using them at once.
We hope you had a wonderful night's sleep in our Super-King size bed, and we hope to see you again sometime.
All our best,

Thank you, Chunksn!
It's so great that you enjoyed your room with a view. The third floor is particularly nice as it provides you with a complete view of the harbour, which is very nicely complemented by the room's amenities.
We'd love to see you again, so do drop by next time you find yourself here in Akaroa.
Best wishes,

This motel has large spacious rooms with a couch and comfortable chair to watch TV, and a lovely small balcony with french doors overlooking part of the lake and mountains. The bed is very comfortable, there are nice amenities, a large nice show and large washroom. The unit was nice and quiet for sleeping. The kitchen is well stocked. This is the best motel so far in our travels in NZ.

Room Tip: Our second floor was quiet...

My partner and I spent a night in quaint Akaroa during our South Island road trip in February 2018. We chose Akaroa Criterion Motel due to its proximity to Daly's Wharf (the meeting point of our dolphin swim) and booked the Standard Studio. The motel was literally a stone's throw away from the wharf and there were also a bakery and a supermarket located 2 minutes away on foot. The town center where most of the restaurants were found was about a 10 minute walk away along the beautiful crater lake.

We were the last guests to check-in that evening and easily found parking despite the hotel being fully booked. The friendly host checked us in and showed us to our room on the ground floor. We were delighted when we saw the room — it was the easily the best out of all that we had stayed in during our trip! The studio was huge, with an immensely comfortable king-sized bed and sofa, and furnished with everything we needed and more. The bathroom was equally roomy (it seemed like it was designed for disabled access) and we loved the provided toiletries. We stepped out onto the patio to witness the lake glistening under the setting sun.

My partner and I had a wonderful stay at Akaroa Criterion Motel with zero complaints, and we would highly recommend the motel to tourists who have reason to be at Daly's Wharf!

Dear Adrenalinetravellers,
It's people like you who make Hospitality a wonderful industry to work in! Thank you for your lovely comment. We are blessed with our views, located in front of an incredibly tranquil and vibrant blue (on a sunny day!) sea. Akaroa offers many different boat trips to offer you the privilege of seeing the Hector Dolphins, endemic to New Zealand and primarily found here, in the Banks Peninsula.
We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and found everything homey and welcoming, it's what we strive for!
Should you ever return to Akaroa and wish to stay with us again, give us a call directly and we will be sure to provide you with a fantastic deal and an even better view.
All the best,

Lovely big and clean room. It was on the ground floor and appeared to be wheelchair friendly, especially in the bathroom. Friendly lady at reception. Had glimpses of the sea but I imagine these could be lovely from the first floor rooms. Very quiet even though the road was right by our room.

Thank you Wendy!
Both our bottom floor rooms are wheelchair friendly, yet they don't lose any glamour with their wider door-frames and window-less showers. Unfortunately we know that by being on the bottom floor, the views aren't as spectacular as if you were to be at the very top - but this is amended for by charging a lower price.
Call us directly next time you wish to make a booking with us, for we will be able to offer you a great deal and a room with a proper view of the sea.
All the best,
