Hard to define whether we were the wrong people for the place or the place was just wrong.
We booked a 'Stargazer' - a wooden "tent" with a foam mattress on the floor. Plenty of bedding and despite a cold night we stayed warm. But stupidly expensive for a very, very basic accommodation.
Booked in by a Canadian? woofer who sold me one of the worst homebrew beers Ive ever tasted for $5!. Homebrew costs about 40c a bottle to make (I make it at home)..is it even legal to sell homebrew to guests?
The shared kitchen(s) were the most haphazard I have ever seen, and over-crowded - they just kept taking in more guests to sleep in caravans and wherever else despite the fact there was simply no room in the main sitting area or kitchen at mealtimes which made it a nightmare to relax or make a meal.
Showers and toilets located out in the backyard made it all just a bit awkward really.
No shoes to be worn inside despite the fact that it was freezing! Many people complaining about the cold rooms at the end of the main house. (lucky not us) Stickers and signs everywhere - don't do this, don't do that...
If your into the vigour of the outdoors and long walks around beautiful rugged headlands (and being waaay out of town up a very big hill) it will probably suit you.
IMHO don't book the stargazer, despite the 'romanticism' it was just annoying really, the front door faces the main driveway and you had to climb a fence to access the main buildings.
Like most backpackers you are just left alone to do your own thing and hang with the crowd, which is fine if they're a nice mob, but it only takes one annoying <insert your choice of Nationality here> to ruin everything.
('scuse the late review, Im still catching up....)
