Yes, peerless is the only way to describe this amazing establishment. What Andy has created here needs to be experienced to be believed. The level of service and attention to detail is incredible. We had a family wedding in Tavira last week and it was our great good fortune to find this oasis of luxury. The breakfast alone, in time, will become a thing of legend. This is truly a "home away from home"

I think you may have twigged by now that our stay here was something special and an experience we have every intention of repeating. Finding the right words to describe the warmth of welcome and how well we were treated is an exercise in futility. PEERLESS just about comes close.

Thank you Andy, Daniel and Andrea for a fantastic time. We will meet again for certain

Previous reviews have said it all-almost! We ve just had a most enjoyable 6night stay in calcada. What a lucky find. From the moment we arrived we were treated to gold star treatment. The house is so comfortable, spotlessly clean and the breakfasts just superb. Andy, Daniel and Andrea could not have been better hosts , nothing was too much trouble. We will be eternally grateful to Andy for his kindness to our daughter when because of illness it looked as if she wasn't going to be able to make it up the hill to the wedding hotel. Andy made the impossible possible-Mama Mia style! 10 out of 10 doesn't do this guesthouse and its incredible staff justice. Well done .

Room Tip: All are good rooms

Everything was perfect during our stay at Calcada Guesthouse ! The house is really beautiful, it's been fully renovated and everything was carefully thought and decorated with so much good taste !
Our bedroom was extremely clean, cosy and comfortable.
The rooftop is awesome and offers a great view over Tavira.
Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer in Tavira, but we'll come back and we'll definitely stay at Calcada Guesthouse

Although we have visited Tavira several times previously, we were unaware of this little gem tucked away up a slight hill in a side street not far from the town. We found it when searching the web for somewhere to stay whilst attending a family wedding. Owned and operated by British couple Andy and Tamsin ( and ably assisted by Daniel) Calcada guesthouse is 6 rooms spread over two floors. Our room was on level 2 (essentially the ground floor) located just off the communal lounge. Well well decorated, clean and massive bathroom. Room has air con and a ceiling fan which was very much welcomed when coming in from 35-38 degree temperatures. On the terrace there is a quiet, part covered seating area with sofas, lounger, tables and chairs. A small fridge is provided to allow you to cool your own drinks etc and the guests rely on each others honesty to only use their own. There is also a small washing line to dry clothes/swimwear etc. Whilst we opted not to have breakfast, the communal lounge area has tea/coffee making facilities and glasses for drinks. The guest house was spotless with towels changed every day. The gues thouse is 8-10 mins walk from the Roman Bridge/amphitheatre area of Tavira, which is just off the main town areas. Whilst located on a slight incline with a walk along the cobbled streets of Tavira, it can reached by car if you are not comfortable walking on such terrain. Andy and Tamsin have devoted a lot of love in to creating Calcada guest house and are welcoming hosts when you check in and during your stay. We could not say anything negative about our stay and will be sure to return.

Room Tip: Level two rooms overlook a little courtyard/parking area

This accommodation was the best we experienced during our 4 week trip of Portugal. The Guesthouse is well located and only a 3 min walk (75m) from the Bus Station, so don't bother to catch the train. The Guesthouse has a very homely feel about it and we were made very welcome, the upstairs terrace was a great place to enjoy a coffee or glass of wine and the outside fridge was a bonus. The room was very large as was the bathroom, and the toiletries especially the shampoo and toilet paper were much better than you usually get. The breakfast was excellent and as good as we experienced in Portugal. The Wifi was excellent. The accommodation is very well located to the old town and its tourist sites and also close to the restaurants. Although more expensive than most of our accommodation in Portugal it was worth it. Highly recommended! There was nothing that we could fault about this accommodation.

Room Tip: The ground floor rooms are closer to the lounge and coffee machine.
