“small paradise”

Hidden away in the gorgeous Portuguese countryside -but only a few minute's drive from Tavira city centre- is this wonderful little house. We were there in december, a little too cold to be sitting in the garden but the house itself is a fine place to relax. Comfortably designed, with large sliding doors overlooking the garden with some olive trees. Heating was no problem at all (airco works fine, wooden fire is wonderful too), kitchen is well-equipped, house is rather small but good enough for two.

“The Perfect Algarve Hideaway”
Reviewed 16 June 2013 for a stay in May 2013

Portugal's famous Algarve: It's a bit of a balancing act while you are at once trying to discover the region's hidden gems and yet finding yourself in a crash of tourists all clamoring for sun, fun and beach time. That is why charming Tavira provides the ideal venue for an Algarv-ian holiday...and Casa do Vimal offers the perfect place to experience everything from intimate evenings by the pool to great walks in the countryside to outstanding dining, shopping and sunbathing.

I will say now that Casa do Vimal is among the top vacation rentals I have ever experienced (and yes, I have been to lots:-)

Five minutes off the main highway, on an olive-tree lined lane that offers seclusion and tranquility, this amazing small, two-story get-away simply delighted me. It is a renovated structure, fitted out in modern, trendy style, with patios and windows that make the outdoor environment -- olive and orange trees, grape vines, flowering bushes and shrubs, birds of all sorts -- feel at one the indoor living space. From your downstairs living room and terrace, you gaze into the groves. If you are so inclined, you can wander over to the gardened area adjacent, where Vimal has created a sort of Zen-garden-like effect with a swimming pool, arbor, barbecue area and also a cool trailer beautifully outfitted as another rental unit.

The upstairs bedroom is lovely, bright and a great place to indulge in long lazy mornings, light pouring in from the slider and private balcony (where a pre-bed glass of wine is mandatory).

Only a few minutes drive from Tavira, on the eastern side of the Algarve, this spot is a great hub for exploring crazy Faro (talk about intense shopping, eating and drinking!), driving northeast to beautiful Alcoutim, or even visiting Spain. For us, it was hard to leave Tavira itself...terrific restaurants (avoid the super-touristy ones) and a special note here: thanks to the Tavria Lounge for offering internet, outstanding food and the chance to meet some local characters, as well. Emma, the young woman who had greeted us and came to say goodbye, offered had steered us to this bistro, and she also gave us great tips on what to do/where to go

I hated to leave Casa do Vimal. I can honestly say I would -- will -- go here again in a heartbeat, without even checking other places in the Algarve.

“Get away from it all!”

A wonderful house in the countryside 3 miles or so out of Tavira. We went for 8 days and absolutely loved our stay there. Would definitely go back.

The house is superb, outdoor space on every level and use of space is very clever. Done out to a high standard with all the stuff you'd need.

The garden is great, with sun loungers and outdoor shower to cool off. The neighbours are not there a lot but are very friendly when they are.

If you want it you can even get fresh bread delivered early every morning by a local baker! It's is walkable into Tavira or a fairly cheap cab ride, but you would want a car to make the most of your stay and to visit other places on the algarve.

All in all a wonderful place to kick back, catch some rays, sip on a cold beer and cook up some fabulous fresh fish from the markets! What more could you want?

No wifi may be an issue for some, but for us it added to the sense of getting away from it all.

“Beautiful holiday let- highly recommended!”

The house is around 30 minutes drive on the motorway from Faro airport which is great as it's away from the tourist hub of Faro but still a short drive. Parking was more than sufficient at the front of the house. We were greeted by our host Emma who was wonderful and showed us where everything was, including the secret drawer for cutlery and the hidden cupboard in the bathroom where the hairdryer was! She even showed us to the nearest supermarket, as it was after 9pm when we arrived to get some food in for dinner. We couldn't have asked for a more warmer welcome!

The house itself was wonderful, perfectly refurbished to a very high standard. The photos on the various websites don't do it justice, it's much lovelier when you are staying there! The garden was beautiful and secluded, and even though it was a short walk from the house. The outside shower is a lovely addition when sunbathing in the hot Portugal sun. We had our breakfast outside every day on the little patio outside the sliding doors of the house. There were plenty of places to sit outside- either outside the lounge doors, upstairs on the balcony or in the garden- spoilt for choice!

The house doesn't have any internet connection as it is quite remote, which at first I thought would be a negative, but it was lovely to get away from all the stress of emails and the internet. If needed, there is free wifi in the mall which we used to check directions.

Location-wise is very good- about ten minutes drive into Tavira itself, about ten minutes to the large supermarket/mall and about 5 minutes to Aldi. Would be great to hire bikes and cycle some of the journeys- a point I would bear in mind if we were to return again. It would be handy to bring a compatible sat nav with you as some of the country roads can look the same and you could find it very easy to get lost!

Overall a very pleasant stay and highly recommended house.

“Really nice country house!”
Reviewed 6 September 2011 for a stay in August 2011

The house is great, and you get a wonderful peace-and-quiet enjoyment there! It's located about a 5 minute drive from Tavira center, so while you're close to all restaurants and the beach, you're also able to get your little quite spot.

Great renovation work done at this old house. You find all the mod cons really nicely mixed with the old feeling! The land in the back is a great area to do an outdoor candle-lit dinner, or to get a few figs and almonds from the neighbour's tree :)

We've had a really great time in Casa do Vimal!
