We arrived from the airport on a very wet Saturday afternoon by taxi (about €11).
We went into reception with baggage and paperwork placed on the reception desk and eventually the lady behind the desk asked if we wanted to check-in?
Once checked in we went to our room on the ground floor. The room only had one window which was into a very small adjoining courtyard with a skylight to try to offer the room some natural light. A curtain had been cleverly fixed so no one could see in but allowed some daylight in.
The room (105) was small with a wardrobe which had hangers and a couple of shelves to stack clothes. There was a desk, minibar, tv and a comfy standard sized bed. To access the far side of the bed you either crawled across the bed or squeezed through an 18 inch (45cms) gap between the pillar and the wall.
There is a safe in the wardrobe but when we tried to set it up a message on the screen suggested the battery was flat. When we tried to get it sorted all they offered was to put our valuables in their safe. We carried them.
The bathroom had a good walkin shower, hot and with good pressure with toiletries supplied. The bathroom is compact but has enough room to use the sink and toilet. There is a hair dryer!
Breakfast was served in the basement where the hot food was at best luke warm but normally cold. There is the usual assortment of continental meats and cheeses with breads. There is a tea/coffee machine and watery fruit juices. If you like a good cup of tea in the morning take your own teabags. Cold milk is at the opposite end of the breakfast bar.
Reception had a number of comfortable chairs and a bar which didn't stay open too late.
The hotel is about 10 minutes walk from the station and the bus stop to the airport (number 22) which is a stopper and takes about half an hour.
The big and it is big market is behind the station.
The hotel is well located for all of the old town with bars and restaurants in close proximity. If you go to the waffle bar nearly opposite, the food is good but service is slow.
If you want to do a river and canal trip go to the river and get a boat there. At the bridge between the rail bridge and the suspension bridge is where they moor and was €12 for an hour when we were there.
