A beautiful contemporary apartment only two blocks from the town square. The location could not have been better. Wrapped in the historic exterior you see in the listing photo the apartment itself is a revelation inside with spacious rooms all comfortably and tastefully furnished, with large windows and a lovely kitchen. It is on the ground floor, which brings a little bit of street noise from the tour groups visiting the Nicholas Church across the street, but none of it too early in the morning or late at night.
Check in and out was very easy with Risto there to meet us as scheduled and helped get us oriented t our surroundings. I'm not sure how many neighbors we had because in this grand old structure we heard no noise from any of the adjoining flats.
But as lovely as the apartment is, its best feature is the location. It is at the foot of one of the two paths to the upper town and only a couple of hundred yards from the sights and many cafes in the lower town hall square. There is a supermarket less that 5 minutes walk and all of the town sights are an easy stroll.
Myself and two grown-up daughters rented this apartment for a week and it couldn't have been more perfect for our needs.
Risto is an unobtrusive and easy-going host. Helpful and easy to contact if needed.
The apartment itself feels spacious and well-cared-for and has everything we needed for our week away. We didn't do as much cooking as we'd planned as there are so many good restaurants nearby (though not the cheapest, being in the heart of the old town). The only item we could have done with was a non-stick frying pan!
Being on the ground floor right in the heart of town meant that sometimes there was late night noise from outside from the occasional reveller but never a problem and it did kind of add to the feeling of "being there".
The wi-fi was a bit hit & miss. For anyone staying here in future, it's worth noting that I found it became a lot more reliable if I disabled 11n speed on my laptop wi-fi adapter. As the connection seemed to max out at 10Mb anyway there is no advantage to connecting at higher than 11g speed.
Transport-wise, the apartment is within easy walking distance to all of the fabulous Tallinn old town and one kilometer or so to public transport - trains, buses and trams. A little further to the ferry for a day-trip to Helsinki but still easily walkable.
We had bought a travel pass on our first day but ended up hardly using it... just a couple of trips to the outskirts (the TV tower is a fun way to see the city from above).
For going further afield without car rental (parking in the old town is not advisable) I can recommend the "traveller tours" company who start their tours from the tourint information point (http://www.traveller.ee/).
I'd be happy to go back to Tallinn and this apartment in particular any time. Great holiday.
