Here, in Lower Town of old part of Tallinn, we visited one more very interesting museum, regarding the rich history of the whole country Estonia. It is located in Pikk street, that I've already mentioned as one street full of galleries, cafes and antique shops.
This history museum is settled in one very nice old buiding, that is, so called Great Guild Hall, since the place and much more than that, belonged to members of the Great Guild in 15th century, the married German merchants, who controlled in these times the Town Council.
But not only that this hulking, gabled hall with the gigantic porch and lion's head door knockers impresses You at the very first sight, here is also one permanent exposition, which show how the Estonian-dwellers lived, fought and survived through 11000 years.
The films and interactive displays make a great deal in helping visitors to understand and see more clearly the passed history of Estonia.
Not to miss when in Old Town.

Thank Oleg Y

Set in a charming old building, a 30 minute visit is all it takes to soak in the well organized exhibits and learn a bit about Tallinn's history -- especially the Baltic Germans.

This small but well put together is an excellent way to understand Estonia if you are visiting for just one day. The exhibits explain Estonia's history and cultural influences well. I especially enjoyed a glimpse into the Estonian heart noted in one of the displays, 'To be alive is happiness'.

Too much for the entrance cost, I entered mainly because of interest in interiors of such houses but I didn't find it was worth it. Good enough to admire the exterior.

Having visited this museum, I'm still not entirely sure what the focus of it was. There's a bit of everything - a short film about the history of Estonia, and another one about its nature and geology; downstairs there's a guild themed exhibition relating to the history of the building, as well as a historical weapons room and a seemingly random collection of historical artefacts from around the world; then there's a money exhibition, a bit about the reformation and a (very) brief look at the Estonian character. A clearer timeline and narrative would've been nice.

I'm still not entirely sure if it was worth a visit or not. To be fair, the look of the museum was very modern and well curated, but I thought it would be a comprehensive look at the history of Estonia and its people - and I don't think it was that.
