“A bit far from the sites of either Buda or Pest”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 September 2009

I booked the hotel because it seemed like a great price, it had a pool, and seemed to be well located, however, none of those components really paid off. The pool was not part of the hotel, but you had to pay a surcharge to use it, as it was a public pool located in the same building complex. The room was very tall, but not particularly spacious, but was sufficient for me and fairly clean. Though located close to the tram, it was not particularly convenient, and I would recommend staying close to the central business district of Buda instead. There were really no ammenities to speak of, and no particular reason to choose the hotel aside from the price. While I wasn't terribly disappointed in my stay, I would not recommend staying there to anyone.

For 50 Euros a single - this place has nothing to offer but the olympic pool that you get access to. That is a treat, indeed, but everything else is crap. Or almost. Not that you would not enjoy the history of this place, with it's narrow hallways, vintage pictures and squeeking furniture, but this is no place to rest. As soon as the tram passes, the entire 10 sqm room rumbles like you are in the darn tram. You can't even hear your unknown neighbour next room anymore, although you are separated not by a wall, but by a simple wooden door. So forget parties or loud TV (alltogether 12 great channels) nor should you try to have private phone conversations... You could, however, use the bathroom for that purpose. It has 3 sqm after all, and you even can turn 360 degrees as long as you do not stretch your elbows. A clean shower head would have made a nice addition...

I'm evil. It is a romantic place, but not a place to return to. Too much noise, nothing to offer besides the huge pool (which comes with more noise, of course), some parking spots, very young staff, agreeable and almost trained.

No go.

The Csaszar is housed in a restored convent overlooking a swimming complex. It's perfectly nice; the rooms have been beautifully redone and are adequately sized, and there's something very atmospheric about being in central Europe while watching elderly men in speedos do their laps.

However, the nature of the architecture means that all the rooms are on two long, narrow halls. The doors don't close unless you slam them, and since they are thin, you hear everyone who comes in or goes out at all hours of the day and night. Forget sleeping in; as soon as one person is up for breakfast (on the same level as the rooms), you're all up. As there are lots of large groups that stay here, that means you'll be up very early whether you like it or not.

Breakfast was woefully inadequate and lacked flavor. I also prefer not to have to inhale other people's smoke while eating. It would be much better if the breakfast area were located downstairs, because listening to someone slam dishes around is a horrid way to wake up on a Saturday morning.

The location is okay, but not great. There are buses direct to the Buda side of town, but to get anywhere you actually want to go in Pest, you'll have to change to the Metro or cross one of the bridges on foot. This gets a little old at 10pm at night when it's freezing cold and the wind is blowing; it shouldn't take an hour to get back from a place that's only 5k away.

Staff are very nice and extremely helpful with directions, etc. Wifi only works in the lounge, which is only good when someone isn't smoking and you can open a window. Technically, smokers are limited to a side room, but the door is always open, so their disgusting habit pollutes the entire hallway.

You won't find better place in the center of Budapest for that price. The room was tiny, but very clean and the staff was EXTREMELY helpful! Highly recommended.
