“Great Host”
Reviewed 9 May 2017 for a stay in April 2017

This apartment was in an excellent location and James was the best host,
eventho he'd sold the apartment before we stayed, he still came out and
gave us the whole welcome info and when we mentioned there was a
problem with the shower, he came right out and replaced the shower head!

“cheap flat but with problems”

The booking went smoothly, and the flat is very central. When we arrived, the cleaning lady was still there. She called James, who came some minutes later. Both were very friendly, and James made us felt welcome and comfortable. We agreed that the cleaning lady stays in the apartment to clean it while my girlfriend and me started our trip to the city. But when we came back several hours later, and the cleaning lady was gone, the place still wasn't totally clean: There were a lot of hairs in the shower, cobwebs and dust in the dormitory, and the dishes in the cupboard weren't really clean so we washed everything before using. Also we noticed the smell of gas in one room, though we hadn't been using it. We called James and he told us, that he is aware of the problem, but the gas company said it was normal. Still we felt very uncomfortable with the constant smell of gas so we ventilated the rooms a lot. Also there was an electronical device somewhere that made a vibrating noise from time to time in the night, which was disturbing but we got used to it the following nights. Furthermore the internet / wifi was only working poorly or not at all which was also annoying. After we had our flight back we saw some emails that James knew the internet problem and tried to solve it, which in retrospect is relieving to know, but still. The flat itself is good when compared to the price paid. But because of the problems we thought about changing the place while we were in Budapest. We wouldn't rent the flat again.

“Location, location, location & best host!!”
Reviewed 25 January 2017 for a stay in January 2017

James was great in advice for the area also very helpful in a state of emergency. He actually was so great in helping me find my iPhone I lost it at one of the tourist sites. He was so kind and picked up my iPhone for me from the person that found it I am forever greatful! Thank you James! The apt is great cozy, just what you need for 2 people or perhaps even 4. We were completely satisfied and will consider returning for a summer in Budapest!! Amazing amazing amazing!!!

“Awesome location”
Reviewed 29 December 2016 for a stay in December 2016

The good:

+ Awesome location (if you’re not using a car). Many public transport lines and the biggest public transport hub are really close on foot. The view from the square in front of the flat is amazing, pretty much the most scenic location in Budapest one could ever wish for. The caveat in the first sentence is there because finding parking space is very difficult and/or expensive in the area.

+ Quiet. Even though there was a busy Christmas fair with music performances a block away, no noise was audible inside the flat.

+ Spacious rooms and comfortable furniture. A treat for those who like classic early 20th century high-ceiling flats.

+ Very good price.

The mixed:

~ There were hundreds of foreign TV channels, but not a single one was available in Hungarian. (This is probably not an issue for foreign visitors, but I was looking forward to watch some Hungarian TV.)

~ There is a gas hob & oven in the kitchen, but I couldn’t see any carbon monoxide detectors.

~ The flat has a strange temperature gradient. The second (smaller) bedroom and the corridor were comfortably warm, but the main room was quite chilly even with the radiators fully turned on. So we resorted to leaving all the inner doors open in hope that some of the smaller room’s heat would reach the main room.

The bad:

- Unreliable hot water supply. On two separate days during our 8 days stay the shower ran out of hot water after 15 mins. Other times it worked all right for the whole of the half hour of shower. I don’t know if it would have occurred more times, because after running out of hot water for the 2nd time, I started taking very quick and frugal showers.

- Uncommunicative host. While he was very nice in person, it was really hard to get hold of him both before and during our stay. TripAdvisor messages took weeks(!) to be answered, he never picked up the phone, only text messages were a quasi-reliable way to gain any response.

Verdict:

Despite the negatives, the amazing location, the spacious and quiet rooms and the accessible price make it an overall good stay in my book. Recommended!
