The Corinthia Budapest, formerly the Grand Hotel Royal Budapest, typifies its city more than any other hotel does. The grand entrance and staircase, subdued marble decor, and courteous service is a standout.
We were given an upgrade to a Residence apartment, which was huge! 2 clean, comfortable bedrooms, kitchen, 2 baths and a living room for 2 people, facing a garden instead of the busy boulevard, was easy to get used to. The bellman guided us to it through the maze of a hotel, so we wouldn't be exposed to the sex stores and KFC on the adjacent street.
One block away on Liszt Ter is a lovely row of restaurants, each with its own specialty. The NY Cafe is gorgeous, but service and selection have declined with the new ownership. Bock's Bistro next door is much better.
The transit system in Budapest is better organized than in NYC, with a day pass including Metro, tram, and bus that takes you everywhere, with announcements in English. Many Metro stops have escalators.
True, the Gresham, Sofitel, and Intercontinental are closer to the center, but lack the charm. Perhaps with time the neighborhood will become more worthy of this hotel.

We stayed in the Royal Residence - apartments behind the hotel. It was great to have 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (one with a full shower), a kitchen, and living room. The washer and drying rack rounded out our needs. The apartments were not as luxurious as the hotel but were clean, well equipped and perfectly adequate. And the extra space made it all the more worthwhile for us. There are 2 floors of apartments and while we opted for the lower level ones to get a larger second bedroom, there was significant noise from the upstairs apartment one night.

Three of us stayed at the residences at the corinthia hotel budapest. The apartment was large very well appointed and quiet. The staff were extremely helpful and I could not fault this hotel and would definately stay here again and highly recommend it to others travelling to Budapest. The spa at this hotel was also fabulous and we had a number of wonderful treatments. I will definately return to this fabulous city and hotel. The added bonus was the very reasonable cost of the accommodation.

Room Tip: The residences at the back of the hotel are great for 3 or more travellers or families

Taking about the hotel, is Great! But if you think to book an aparment is not the best, WHY? the aparments are next to the hotel, so if you wanna go to the pool you have to cross an open hall and them walk the whole hotel to get to the pool, i didn't like this specially in winter. The food was good, the pool awesome and the service nice.
