“Wow!”

Wine Bar & Restaurant Sova
Ranked #10 of 87 Restaurants in Bled
Price range: ₹361 - ₹2,527
Description: Located in the quaint village of Mlino, Restaurant Sova is nestled by the shores of Lake Bled, just opposite the traditional “pletna” boat docks and the stop for the tourist train. “Sova” is the Slovenian word for owl. Much like this watchful and mysterious bird, who stays awake while all others sleep, we are always fully focused on your needs. It is important to us that you love our food! The famous Irish writer George Bernard Shaw once said: “There is no sincerer love than the love of food.” Our two chefs, Knego and Branko, couldn’t agree more. They embody the deep passion we have for the food we serve, and describe their approach as: “cooking from the heart”. Or, to put it another way: “cooking with heart provides food for the soul!” Our guests agree too, but would probably also add that our cuisine satisfies their senses and is full of intuition, magic, creativity and soul. But please don’t take their word for it. We would be only too delighted if you would pay us a visit and decide for yourself! With a breath-taking view of Bled Island, the lake itself and the surrounding hills and mountains, we are only 15 minutes’ walk from Bled town centre. Just enough to work up an appetite. We look forward to attending to your needs!

After 3 weeks in Europe, I can honestly say this was the best meal we have eaten, by far! In fact it was the best meal I have eaten in as long as I can remember. Fine dining in a casual terrace environment, along with a gorgeous Golden Retriever at the adjacent table, which made my evening as I'm missing my dogs! Wish we had a restaurant like this at home. I think we will have to go back for lunch tomorrow. We both had a sublime sea bass pate with toast and a myriad of other complementary flavours as a starter. Then my husband has baked octopus in a truffle sauce and I had melt-in-the-mouth veal cheek in a Barolo sauce. I managed to squeeze in a mango tiramisu with white and dark chocolate and a lavender creme brûlée afterwards, finished off with a couple of great cafe latte's and washed down with plum grappas. A meal to remember! I have to mention they have a superb wine list, with most of their wines available by the glass as well as by the bottle.

A short 20 min walk from the main Bled area (assume you start at the Casino area) you come upon this place. Downstairs and upstairs but I would eat upstairs. Lots of choices and very tasty. Portions were medium to large depending on what you order. Sea bass was very delicious and the steak salad was just right. We shared a mango dessert which was very tasty. Worth the walk from town and not expensive. Starter, glass of wine, two mains and a dessert was 56 euros. Also got 3 bottles of water at 3 euro each so for two you can have a great meal and not break the bank. If we were here longer I'd eat there again!

Not only TripAdvisor, but also every local that we spoke with, most highly recommended Sova as the best place to eat. Due to the popularity, we weren't able to get a reservation on the upstairs terrace, so ate inside downstairs. When we first walked in, it was a little smoky as the kitchen is right there. However, that really didn't continue to be an issue. We had spectacularly prepared and flavored dishes! My husband had the fresh fish daily special and I had the seafood risotto, which were both out of this world. We split the chocolate bomb, which was incredibly delicious. Wines were perfectly matched for each dish. Probably the best food we ate in our 3.5 week vacation, including anywhere in Italy or Croatia.

This was a recommendation from a member of staff at the hotel we stayed in in Ljubljana, who lives close to Bled.

Booking is essential if you want a table on the terrace with views of the lake and island - who wouldn't want a table on the terrace?!

The food was very high-quality and incredibly well-presented - worthy of Michelin ratings! Everything is made in-house and all the wines are Slovenian.

Based on some other local restaurants, prices are slightly more expensive but worth every cent, due to the quality. To give you an idea, we paid about €65 for two main courses, two desserts, two glasses of wine and two glasses of sparkling wine but you could pay that in the UK for something of far inferior quality.

My wife and I, whom are privileged to travel the world and experience great food in those endeavors, enjoyed one of our most memorable meals ever at Sova this past month. Sitting by the edge of Lake Bled with a view of the island and church in this idyllic setting, every aspect of our meal was amazing. Fresh seafood and baked octopus, and fruit that was as fresh and tasty as any I've had. The setting from the upstairs balcony overlooking the lake at sunset is hard to beat, and the service was terrific.

As the exchange rate for Slovenia is so favorable, this five-star meal including tip came out to an extremely reasonable price. My wife and I cannot wait for a return visit to the region and to the restaurant itself.
