Owner description: The Warsaw Rising Museum was opened on the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of fighting in Warsaw. The Museum is a tribute of Warsaw’s residents to those who fought and died for independent Poland and its free capital. The exhibition depicts fighting and everyday life during the Rising, keeping occupation terror in the background. Complexity of the international situation at the time of the Rising is portrayed, including the post-war years of the Communist regime and the fate of Insurgents in the People’s Republic of Poland (PRL). With the total area of more than 3000 m2, 800 exhibition items, approximately 1500 photographs, films and sound recordings, history of the days preceding the Rising is told. Visitors are guided through the subsequent stages of the Rising until the time when the Insurgents left Warsaw. Their further fate is also portrayed.

This museum chronicles the damage done to the city and people of Warsaw during World War 2. This was both moving and frightening. The photos are graphic, not sure the age limit of children should be to go there. It is a difficult period, but the story should be told. I think the museum does a good job of telling the story. The inside is kept somewhat dark, and it can be confusing if there is an "order" that everything should be viewed. A difficult story, but I think it also shows the destruction of war and the bravery of the people involved.

We visited on New Years' Eve, which I understand was probably not the best day, but we found it to be a little disorganised, with the staff not terribly bothered with helping us. We were unable to get any audio guides as the desk was not unmanned, but the staff were no longer dealing with people. It was a Sunday, so entrance was free, which was a good thing. The place was relatively packed, some of the history was interesting, but it was scattered all over the place, I guess we were unsure of where to go without the audio guides. Still, I would recommend it for future travellers.

This museum was recommended by family and well worth the visit. It drives home the impact this event had on the people of Warsaw/Poland and their fighting spirit. It takes much longer to go through than we thought. Plan to spend several hours if you want to see everything. I think the ambiance and feel are authentic and I highly recommend visiting.

It was a very impressive museum on the history of the city. But I do not advice this museum to sensitive people. It has hard photos (but it is possible to avoid most of them)
