Stayed here for 4 nights in order to attend a friends wedding. We were a party of 24 and as such provided our own entertainment, which was just as well as there was not much jollity emanating from the hotel. To be fair, this is not a holiday destination and the concept of efficient and friendly service is alien to this recently communist society. The staff in general are not rude, merely indifferent. The hotel is modern but very basic. Our room was not serviced in all the time we were there and if we wanted replacement towels or toilet rolls, we had seek out a maid.
Our room was a reasonable size with a small but modern en-suite. It was devoid of any decoration and so badly designed that it took us two days to find the concealed electric sockets.
The restaurant served average quality food from a limited menu. The service was extremely slow.
In short, this is an average Eastern European rural hotel. It will be many years before this type of establishment provides the level of service expected by Western European travellers. The other factor to be considered is cost. By British standards the rooms (about £20 per night), the restaurant and the bar are very cheap.
Chelm is a bland and fairly charmless place but Irish-Polish weddings are not to be missed.More
