This hotel isn't without its good points - the staff are friendly and rooms have balconies, but it's difficult to recommend it at the price. The location is somewhat picturesque and good for water sports (which most of the other guests seemed equipped for), less so for quick access to the centre of Gizycko. Breakfast is substantial but no more than adequate.

Rooms are basic. Spartan, in fact. No fridge, no kettle, tiny television, wifi that covers communal areas but not rooms (our room, at least) - and no air conditioning. While this may seem a bit of a luxury, in an area where temperatures often reach the low 30s in the summer, this is difficult to live without. Caveat emptor of course, and I accept that we should have checked this before booking, but these days, hotels without air conditioning (and remember, this hotel isn't *that* cheap) are rare. Reception were able to provide us with a fan, but we spent an extremely uncomfortable night there before checking out and going to the 4 star St Bruno in central Gizycko, where a modest increase in cost provided a standard of accommodation that was incomparably superior.

To summarise, this is a large hotel with some potential. The building is not unattractive, the staff are genuinely pleasant and helpful, and breakfast is just about tolerable, but its very basic rooms, out of the way location and suffocating heat in the summer make it impossible to recommend. I hope the owners are able to invest a little to rectify what they can, as I don't see how Hotel Helena can compete other than in the wedding and conference market.

Extremelly friendly and attentive front desk service with smiling faces. Hotel is some far away city center and canal bridge sometimes open so taxi or walk takes a lot more time. Room and hotel is clean, balcany was a nice extra. TV was really old tiny one located too up near the ceiling. No minibar, no fridgerator. cold drinks available on the hotel bar. Breakfast was nice but available only after 8 am.
