“Not so beautiful as expected”

I discovered this place on the internet and the description as "the thinnest peninsula in the world" made me think about some unforgettable place to visit.
Unfortunately it wasn't nothing special at all. You can reach this place both by train or by boat and the cost is quiet the same! Still you have to pay attention to the time schedule of departures because there are only two or three boats and trains a day leaving from Gdansk to Hel, so don't miss them! The place was really windy and cold! We wanted to have a walk a long the beach but after a while the wind became unbearable! There were no attractive places to visit or to see. On the table with suggestions for tourists places to visit there were only photos of some military rests of the second world war completely abandoned! Really nothing interesting!
Probably it is a good place for surfing but that's it!
A bit disappointing!

We took the 11 o'clock ferry from Sopot pier and arrived in Hel at 12:15 after a crossing on a very calm Baltic. The town is fantastic with many small shops for souvenirs, bars and restaurants. We followed the trail through the forest to the other side of Hel which has a long golden beach and is stunning. The sun shone and we enjoyed our 4 hours on the peninsula before returning for the 17:00 ferry back to Sopot. A must whilst visiting Sopt, Gdansk or Gydnia.

We spent a week in Hel, Poland, located at the far north of Poland into the Baltic Sea. It was busy with lots of cars on such a small peninsular, get the time wrong you will suffer many hours in the traffic. We camped on the furthest possible point, Hel Camp, busy but clean and well resourced. Hel centre was a typical seaside resort, restaurants, fishing, seal attraction and lots to do. We had great weather but it would be cold and difficult if it were bad facing 2 sides of water and weather. A great week but would not have a reason to return. Good food, interesting history and furthest point north of Poland.

A friend recommended Hel as a half-day trip during our vacation in Sopot. We're happy we took his advice on "going to Hel and back".

Great town for people watching, restaurants and taking in the natural beauty.

A haven for kite boarders and wind surfers. I've never seen so many in one place!

Beach in Hel is not the best I have seen, sand is not as white and water is not as clear as for example in Sopot, but it is definitely worth to visit. In combination with walking from downtown through the forest it was a nice experience and a chance to see another face of Baltic nature.
