Owner description: A significant historical building in the centre of Brno. Today, the Old Town Hall serves mainly cultural purposes, as it houses a gallery, an information centre, and a permanent exhibition on its history. In summer, you can visit its historical halls and climb up the 63-metre tower to enjoy an impressive view of Brno from the top. The courtyard serves as a venue for various concerts, festivals, theatre performances, and film screenings. Enter its arched passage through the portal beneath the legendary Late Gothic turret by sculptor Anton Pilgram. In the passage, you can see two items from other famous Brno legends: a crocodile, also called the Brno dragon, and a wheel. The courtyard beyond, with Renaissance arcades from the end of the 16th century, was built by Italian designers, and later modifications are the result of its Early Baroque renovations. The Old Town Hall served its original purpose until 1935 when the authorities moved to the New Town Hall located at Dominican Square.

If you are up for it, then take the 173 steps up the tower - you won't regret it

I can't really review the town hall it self, because we came late at night and it was closed - but we didn't come for that anyways, we came for the tower!

The fee is 70k (5€) and from there... It's just about getting to the top!

You get an amazing view of the city, all the cathedrals and life going on in the small streets down below.

Even though I'm in pretty bad shape and a heavy smoker - I would do it again

But remember; after 6 pm. they only take cash. Otherwise no worries, there is atm's close by

Firstly, the Old Town Hall is a good place for a nice photograph. Lots of tour guides are giving tours around the hall.

Secondly, the tourist information centre is useful, despite not all the information they have given to me is accurate (e.g. train timetable). The staff there is polite and nice. You can get a lot of brochures there.

Thirdly, the tourist information centre includes a souvenir shops, which you can buy souvenirs there as I could not see a not of souvenir shops around the town center.

Fourthly, and the best part is, you can pay 70CZK and enter the observation deck. You have to climb a lot of stairs to reach the top. Although the deck is quite small and very narrow, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Brno at the center of the city. There are also some nice exhibitions when you go up to the deck.

As in the case of the cathedral and the fort this building is advertised as very old, dating back to the 13th century. In case of 'stara radnice' even a precise year is mentioned: 1240. I find it a strange practice that whenever there is evidence of a stone or fragment that is indeed very old, to consequently deem the whole (newer) building very old. The town hall looks rather unassuming, a building like many others in e.g. Prague. I must say, pleasant to look at, but that is about it. You can climb the 63m high tower for a view. The late Gothic gate from 1510 is worth a closer look at: beautiful.

Admission fee: 60 Crowns

Very beautiful old building with interesting stories about crooked spire and Brno dragon. it is one of the must-sees in Brno. It is possible to climb the tower for a reasonable price.
