It's not the easiest hotel to spot, hidden as it is behind a cafe on a crowded street corner. Nor is it the most modern hotel, though it does have kitchen facilities and a clean bathroom area. Nevertheless, it's a quiet and interesting getaway especially if you appreciate history and lofts. The hotel is built on an historical site and retains both the charm and the old wooden beams of an earlier century. The bedroom is in a loft accessible by a rather steep staircase. It's a very comfortable sleeping area. The room does not have air conditioning, but it does have several fans, which were more than adequate in May. Oddly, there was no room phone. Breakfast was rather spartan. On the other hand, the location is excellent for walking to the castle, the Kafka museum, the bridge, and many shops and sites. The desk manager was friendly and helpful, provided a bountiful welcome package and patiently gave directions for travel through the city.

Dear Anemoney,

Thank you for your stay at The Nicholas Hotel Residence and for taking time to write us a review.

I have to agree when you describe us as a charming historical loft. We are a small but very personalized boutique Hotel. Therefore, we see no necessity for phones is the room as our communication is personalized and accessible, as you also described. Also, our breakfast is simple but complete with all the perks of a continental buffet.

We are looking forward to see you soon in Prague.

Kind regards,

Nuno Soares

The Nicholas Hotel is located near the Charles Bridge and the Prague Castle, so the location is superb! The front desk staff, led by Nuno, were extremely helpful and spoke impeccable English. One of them recommended Marma - an Italian restaurant along the river on a boat - not only did we get to watch the sunset behind Prague Castle, but it was also the best and cheapest meal we had in Prague! The staff made our trip very pleasant, and even shipped a jacket we had left behind to us. Breakfast had lots of options and it was convenient to take it to our room. We stayed in the 2 bedroom loft. The views from the windows were stunning. It was hotter than we anticipated our trip to be and there is no a/c because it's in a UNESCO building attached to the Nicholas Church. Luckily we stayed in spring so it cooled off at night and the fans helped. I wouldn't have booked this place if it was the summer. Overall, a fabulous and authentic stay.

Dear Shelly,

Thank you so much for your kind review. We are delighted to read that you felt individually attend to and we contributed to the wonderful Prague experience that you had.
Regarding the heat in the room, indeed, our Spring has been extraordinarily warm with temperatures 10* Celsius above the average. So, in Summer time, the temperature should be the same you experienced during those days. Don't be afraid to return then, we are looking forward to host you one more time.

Kind regards,

This place hardly qualify as a hotel!
A converted roofs pace with 9 rooms?
First of all I booked a junior suite in late January for a late May travel.
Despite their website stating that they won't charge your card they did so claiming a Corpus Christi event,so before I knew my card was charged fully,
My partner became ill and the doctor advised him not to travel so I tried to cancel this trip,
The hotel response, sorry we not doing so but you get a credit 80% of the full price as they took 20%?????
Luckily my partner got the green light in the last few days so I didn't loose 1200 dollars.
This place is completely misleading, there is no air conditioning so imagine in the attic space in temps above 30C,all they provide some electric fans!!!!
There are no phones in the rooms despite an elaborate looking gadget fixed on the wall as the A/C system, there is a wall unit but not connected to anything, they claim that this is an old protectd heritage building hence nothing can be installed!!GIVE ME A BREAK!
The furniture covers on chairs and sofa are filthy,
They claim a junior suit is 60 square meter,in your dreams!
Also misleading ad on their site- soundproof Windows ,the only double glazed tiny Windows are in the attic the 2 major one facing the noisy square is 2 single pane Windows with old mechanism ,we had a big storm and it's leaking inside as well
The door is warped so can't lock it unless you kick it.
They provide continental brekfast but only from 8 am!
So I dare to ask what cost 300 dollars a night on this something that I would never ever called a hotel?????
No description how to use the tv,which is complicated unless you are an expert ,anyway there are only a few English speaking channel via hot bird which won't work if it's a stormy day.All the other channels are in chech

Dear Robert,

I am sad to read that your stay at The Nicholas Hotel didn't meet your expectations. As I see it, the main reason for your disappointment was the fact that you could not get your money back when canceling. I also can understand that everything else you are complaining about is more a consequence of the previous point than points in itself. Nevertheless, please allow me to write a few lines to provide you with a reasonable explanation for them. We are a small Hotel with nine rooms but, nevertheless, we are ranked #36 in Prague on this very website, which, by itself should certify it as such.

Reservation. This is the message I sent you after you request a cancelation: "Dear Robert, thank you for letting us know about the change of your plans. I am sorry to hear about your health issues (...). Please accept our quick recovery wishes (...).
Regarding your reservation, unfortunately, it will not be possible to refund it in accordance with our Terms and Conditions, of which you were aware when booking. (...) However, we are willing to open an exception in your case. If you are able to reschedule your trip to Prague, we would be very happy to offer you 90% of the total of the reservation as a credit towards a future reservation with us. Please just e-mail us to make your new reservation so that we can apply this credit. We will retain 10% of the total for the reservation as a cancellation fee."
Equally, there is a full list of what we offer and there is no promise of A/C in the rooms. Further for your information, we are located in the historical center of Prague and we are not allowed to have AC in the building. Moreover, the devices we have do work but they are for heating!
We, at Nicholas, pride ourselves of high standards of cleaning and our rooms are in pristine condition as they are daily cleaning by our housekeepers.
As to the measurements, in Europe, the buildings are measured by the authorities who also certify them, as you could observed in the blueprints on the wall. So 60 square meters, for sure.
Finally, and regarding TV, am I sure that you are aware that Czech Republic and most of European Countries do not speak English and therefore we need to make sure our TV system is satisfying for everyone.

Thank you and safe travels

The hotel is on the 3rd floor of a renovated building. The rooms are spacious and comfy. However The rooms are quirky, retaining the old look and feel. The staff is very friendly, led by Nuno the manager. Walking distance to all main attractions.

Just to be clear I never have given a 5 as there is always something to be desired. The only thing I can say was left to be desired is our desire to stay longer! Everyone was amazing, the room was comfortable and loaded with a welcoming feel, and the hotel is located within walking distance of a great restaurant, Lokal, and the Church with the Divine Infant we wanted to see, and even the hop on hop off tour bus to get a quick view of what you want to spend time on later. From the time we entered, we were made to feel special. I loved it!

Room Tip: Not many rooms but of those they have built upon a castle, it's more than worth the trip!
