This is Mozarts favourite theatre which he did his premieres. He loved Prague and the Estates. We went for Le Nozze Di Figaro. Real feast of act and music. Must do, if you have 3 hrs time for watching an opera in the city.

Estates theatre is pleasurable experience if you like something special, cultured and old. Imagine a theatre where young Mozart actually conducted his operas. Standing outside looking at the external stairs if you shut your eyes you can see this young man in a wig dashing up before the performance. The interior is luxurious but intimate with high balconies and decorated walls.
The best is to see a Mozart’s opera there; such as Magic Flute or Don Giovanni. The later was composed for this place and for the Prague citizens.
It was the first time I understood the opera plots and words as we could read the sur-titles in English on a large display board while listening to heavenly music .
If you like a smart experience wearing evening clothes, and to leave your coats and boots in the mirrored basement cloakrooms and in the intervals to sip champagne and eat open sandwiches in bars standing at marble topped tables (and if you are careful at reasonable price ) this is for you.

The Estates Theater is centrally located, there are many restaurants nearby. Grab a quick bite to eat first, and then make your way to your show. You can purchase tickets the same-day even during the busy season in the summer. I saw a Mozart concert. Most concerts unless otherwise indicated last only 1 hour, so you can easily include a concert at the Estates in your evening plans. Mozart played here, and no wonder why, the concert hall is beautiful and very well maintained. I will go back here when I am in Prague.

Where else you can hear Mozart operas in authentic environment. As this is relativity small theater, you truly have wonderful experience of dropping back in XVIII century and listening for good quality performance in intimate environment. Evening performances are highly recommended, day performances of Mozartissimo perhaps is not what you are looking for to get the experience I have described

We booked tickets to Don Giovanni here, considering the history of Mozart with this theatre it seemed worthwhile, but be careful, we spoke to people after, and apparently the sound is not great in the balcony up the top.
Otherwise the performance was fantastic and the theatre is absolutely gorgeous.
For music lovers I would suggest this is a must do.
