Peaceful and Relaxing

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 28 Sept 2024
We had a two night dinner package through Luxury Escapes which proved excellent value for money. Our room was clean and spacious with tree top views to Lake Samsonvale and Deception Bay. Could not fault the staff who were friendly and helpful. The restaurant served high quality food and more amazing views of Brisbane, Moreton Bay and the Glasshouse Mountains. Buffet breakfast on the restaurant balcony was a special experience. While we were very happy with our experience, the Lodge is showing its age and lacks some of the facilities that might be needed by those with mobility issues, e.g. there is no lift and it's built over several levels on the side of the mountain. Also, the restaurant is accessed via stairs or a longish walk through the lobby. There is no room service and except for tea and coffee making facilities, rooms do not have a minibar. Nor does the Lodge offer a transfer service so getting there from the airport involves hiring a car or taking a taxi/rideshare costing around $120. There are no alternatives to the restaurant wiithin walking distance so you need to have a car or pay for a taxi or rideshare if looking to eat elsewhere. These issues aside we can highly recommend the Lodge if you're looking for somewhere to switch off and relax. Yes, it's on the rustic side but that just adds to the experience.

We trusted in the Mercure brand. What a mistake. This is a (former) motel(!) built probably in the 1970s or 1980s clinging to the ledge of a hill or mountain. It has been prettied up .. to a point, except for the very portion of the complex WE stayed in. Mould in the bathroom, patchy carpets, shortage of power points, dead insects and cobwebs near the entrance to our room, some garbage thrown out of windows into the adjacent forest, difficult access for those with heaps of bags = either stairs up and down OR quasi underneath the building over an uneven surface with NO(!) lights at all. Restaurant overpriced & of poor quality catering to those with an inverse ratio between teeth and tattoos. We booked for 3 nights, wanted to leave after 1 night, were told 'no refund' if we left after 1 night but leaving after 2 nights was okay .. and were indeed refunded that 1 night we did not stay. There ARE better.

Terrible. Bought a GROUPON voucher. Room ordinary; no mini bar, no bottled water, no exhaust fan in bathroom and dim light. No other mirrors apart from bathroom, no fly screen on bathroom window.
Our room was next to a family so crying baby till midnight, woken by crying kid at 2am.
Considered getting in the car and going home.
Restaurant ordinary and over priced.
$40 steak was ordinary and not tender.
Barramundi ok but soaked in tomato passatta.
Needs an update definately .

Great views from our balcony and especially from the deck at the restaurant and bar. Room clean and tidy but small. Staff friendly but a little slow to clear tables. Dinner was excellent and was the standout of our 1 night stay however breakfast buffet was average and way overpriced.

This was our third visit here and so far the best (although each visit has been excellent)
We were allocated a lovely room with a great view. Clean and comfortable bedroom. Plenty of toiletry provisions and towels.
Good choices for the included buffet breakfast. We chose the snapper for dinner followed by the cheesecake for dessert. Both were delicious.
All the staff, without exception, continue to be so friendly and helpful. Particular thanks to Russell (maintenance) for his help on arrival and to Sarah in the restaurant. Also the lovely lady who serviced our room. A big thank you to each and every one of the staff.
Unfortunately on our last night the whole area experienced a power outage around dinner time but the staff were amazing and did everything they could to ensure the dining room functioned as normal as possible under the circumstances.
We can’t wait for our next visit, which hopefully will be soon.
Thoroughly recommend this place for a peaceful and relaxing stay.

Having booked the lodge before reading the reviews I hadn’t built my hopes up. But it was not the experience some have had.
Yes, the place is tired and a little dated but it was clean and comfortable. They could change the doors on the rooms to make it look a little less like school camp and modernising the bathroom would go a long way. The room we stayed in was spacious and the bed was really comfortable. It was quite overnight so slept soundly.
The location and views are spectacular from the dining room, we didn’t eat there other than breakfast, which had the normal buffet breakfast items, bacon, sausage, eggs any way you wanted, baked beans, grilled tomato and mushrooms. Also cereal, fruit and pastries. So pretty good all up.
