On my way down from Brisbane I drove past several billboards showing very attractive photographs for Oyster Cove. The words "absolute beach front" figure very prominently on all advertising for this property as does the photographs of an attractive well cared for building.

The reality of this property is completely different. I would have thought that a room described as "oceanside" would have a view of the oceanside. Afraid not. Delightful views over the adjoining buildings. Perhaps a glimpse of blue somewhere in the distant if you hung your head off the balcony at a very unusual angle. Rooms dirty, dated. Bathrooms with enough mould in them to pass as a very acceptable mushroom farm.

The entire property has at some stage clearly been a premium destination. The photographs used liberally in the advertising campaigns clearly come from those days. Its now at best a seedy property in need of demolition. Its very clear from every interaction with staff and management that morale is non-existent and that they have no expectations of return guests. Instead, the strategy is to lure people in once and fleece them while they have them.

Dear “SydneyAlan”,
Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay with us at Opal Cove Resort. We apologise that the resort did not meet you expectations.
We are upgrading the product and do our best to present it as well as we can and look after our guests, in fact the majority that stay with us are
return guests. Our advertising is not meant to be deceptive and most photographs fairly recent, however like with everything can be picked apart if
someone is so inclined. The reviewer above you for example obviously feels we are beach front and was quite happy with the views.
If we are made aware of issues at the time of the stay we will do our utmost to rectify problems as best we can.
Obviously when running at high occupancies with last minute or walk in bookings at times we are unable to offer room upgrades or
Changes. Again thank you for your review.

Our air conditioner was broken. Was told it is struggling as fully booked! Still didn't work the next day finally got offered a pedestal fan! Reservation staff gave no apology and didn't seem to care at all! On a better note the restaurant staff were absolutely lovely as was the food.

Dear “Danielle M”
Thankyou for taking the time to review our property. We are upgrading the product and do our best to present it as well as we can and look after our guests.
Our rates are competitive and set depending on occupancy levels and time of year. We do have maintenance issues occur from time to time and this is a fact
of life and not something we want to happen but will do what we can to make a stay as comfortable as possible when they do occur if we are too heavily occupied
to allow a room change. Our upgrade / refurbishment program is being worked around occupancy levels and conference commitments. We are pleased you found the Food
& beverage service and meals up to standard and have passed on your positive comments thank you
Again thank you for your review.

We stopped here for 1 night on our journey from Sydney to Gold Coast. We couldn't sleep the whole night as the bed was so uncomfortable. Probably the mattress was so old - need replacement. In the morning, my husband and i both had back pain. They put us in an interconnection room and the door connected 2 room did not lock. We were so surprise when we opened the other door and found people in the other room.

We are genuinely sorry you did not get a good nights sleep as regardless of anything thing else this is our main focus and aim with all guests. We are currently
undergoing an upgrade / refurbishment program this year, again working around occupancy levels and conference commitments, and are in the process of replacing
a number of beds and mattresses.
Again thank you for your review.

We have previously stayed at at opal Cove because of its convenient location half way between Sydney and Brisbane. It is in a beautiful location, out of the main town, on a beach and with all the benefits of a rest. A large pool, playground, plenty of room to stretch our legs and lots of secluded hideaways from the crowd. We enjoyed the happy hour - limited choices but welcome after a day's drive. The restaurant has a predictable menu that should satisfy most. The rooms are clean but in need of an update. I'm sure the mattress was lumpier than last time we stayed and I doubt the pillows have been replaced. The furniture in the foyer is tired but serves its purpose. Staff are friendly and helpful and we loved our room - described as ocean glimpses but really a view to the horizon over the ocean and north to the inlet and very relaxing to watch dusk settle from our balcony. Worth the extra $ for an ocean view room.

Room Tip: pay the extra for an ocean view - it is worth it.

This is a great place to stay if you are looking to stop on the way to or from Sydney or for a few days with the family. Friendly staff and a direct walk to the beach. Restaurant is child friendly and the facilities are good although a little tired....
