“Tons of snow”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2012

Skied Mt Washington for 3 days last week, tons of snow.
Terrain is excellent and varied, even with the Outback area closed lots to ski and have fun for a few days.
Staff are super friendly , great alternative with the added bonus of being able to stay in the valley and enjoy it as well.

“Great resort - so much snow & brilliant views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 April 2012

We stayed a week in Bear Lodge. First time skiing for my kids. I'm an advanced skier & my husband is intermediate. We all had a great time. There were enough runs and lifts to suit all standards. Small enough to become familiar but large enough to offer enough variety.

We all had lessons. Kids 3 day ski camp was great value. I cannot fault the instructors. All of them were brilliant (especially Ken, Luke & Tim) and between us we learnt with 6 different instructors.

The snow & powder was amazing. Base layer was 7m by the end of our stay with about 1m falling in our week. We were concerned before we left about skiing at Easter but no worries here. There is plenty of snow.

Only weird thing was daytime skiing ended at 3:30pm. Night skiing 3:30-10pm was only available Thurs-Sun.
Night skiing would benefit from a few more runs open as the runs close down leaving only easy acres, terrain park and Coaster open.

Food in the resort was ok. We liked Fresh the best. Fat Teddies was ok for a calorific meal (burgers, etc.). Other than that not much choice, especially for those wanting healthy options.

General store was ok. Don't rely on it for fresh ingredients at all. Loads of tinned & packet food & alcohol choice though. We mainly brought our own food. To drive down the hill to civilisation takes about 35-45 mins.

Ski & boot rental quality was average. I found a better service from Mountain Tek near Guest Services. They hire out demo equipment and offer discounts if you then decide to buy.

No après ski to talk of here but we were happy enough being in our apartment. Will review Bear Lodge separately.

We had winter tyres on our hire car which were fine. We did not drive up or down the hill when snowing though. There are signs up the hill saying you need to carry snow chains for when it does get bad. Up to you! A bus service operates regularly too.

The diggers and groomers worked well throughout the week to keep roads and runs in great condition.

Thanks too to the first aid patrol who did the job really well when needed.

“A Great Little Resort”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 April 2012

Went to Mt.Washington for the Easter long weekend and it was a great little resort to spend a weekend. The road was clear of snow so one didn´t need chains.
After 3:30 pm..the tickets are half price but all but one ski lift is open(Whiskey Jack lift)and if you are a ´beginner´ of either skiing or snowboarding, be advised that ski lift takes you onto a very steep hill. Their very large ´bunny hill´ was the only thing open. I´ve overheard one gentleman complaining to a worker about why they only have one ski lift open after 3:30 and her reply was ´they were short of workers´. I have to agree that it´s silly to close all the other lifts when they can still be open til 6.
The Tubing hill was fun too but very expensive($16/per person for 2 hours). It gets a little boring after an hour of doing it but when paying a hefty price for a two-hour...you want to make it your money´s worth.
They have a great pub there as well to eat. Kids can eat there as well. They also have two lodges(Deer lodge and Bear lodge)with full kitchens for people to stay if they find that driving back to town;which is like a good half hour drive, is too tiring. You have to book well in advance if you want to stay at those lodges as they get booked early for the Christmas season(make sure you have good winter tires and chains if you plan to visit during that time of season as they get A LOT OF SNOW)and Easter weekend.
This resort is open during summer as well for those who like hiking and mountain biking.

“Snow, Snow, & More snow”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 March 2012

My sister and I took our 5 children (2 boys and 3 girls ages 11-16) to Mt. Washington for 3 days over spring break. I won't go into the details of our vacations rental (a little schetchy) however I will detail our mountain experience. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon, to little snow fall with lots already on the ground and even more to come. We trekked our belonging to our cabin (there is no driving in to the cabins) and then walked up to the lodge. The food at the lodge was good, and the service was okay. We had to wait for a VERY long time to get the nachos even after everyone else got there food. Upon walking in the morning, we were in full blizzard status. The hill was completely shut down. No ski runs open and the roads where closed. We also had no cell phone, internet or power for over 16 hours. Can't fault Mother Nature though and we received 72cm of snow during that time. The next morning was beautiful and sunny. Perfect mountain weather. The family went skiing while I went and hung out in the lodge. Had a snack and some coffee in the cafe and it was great. The prices are very reasonable for a resort and I had a great peacefully time. The kids expressed that it was the best snowboarding experience they had ever had. The next day was time to go home. The snow had picked up again and we made our way (slightly anxious) down the mountain. The snow plows were working as hard as they could, but could not keep up with the snow falling. All in all, a great little getaway. Would highly recommend this hill for a little getaway that's within a few hours of Vancouver and doesn't make you have to sell your soul to pay for it (like Whistler).
