Don't go in the pool. Just don't. This place was such a disappointment. ABSOLUTELY FILTHY! The only souvenir i got from this place was something I am embarrassed to show in public. The smell alone should have been a warning.

Room Tip: stay anywhere but here

Do not bother to go to Chena Hot Springs. We took a two week trip to AK and this was our only disappointment. We thought the hot springs would be like Glenwood hot springs in CO but it was FAR from that. The room was in bad repair and smelled of sulfur and the hot pool was so hot we could only stay in it for 5 minutes. We then went in the indoor pool and it looked like it had not been cleaned in quite some time. I highly recommend to avoid and see some of the many other beautiful places in AK.

I have visited Hot Springs in Japan, and I would urge the Chena owners to visit one of them and see how caring and attentive owners manage their facilities. At Chena, there was no direction (like: Take off your shoes before heading to the changing rooms; or Make sure you have enough quarters to relock each time you open your locker; or Informing new visitors that the spring pool is only accessed through the changing room) How about a two-curtain system on the showers to allow for hanging towels outside the shower proper, as most fitness facilities now have? How about training/managing the desk personnel so that their major attitude expressed to customers is not one of annoyance?
It's really rather a sad commentary on how a decent revenue stream quashes any American impulse to improve the facility/product. This site could be a highlight of a Fairbanks area visit, instead of a recommendation of "If you have nothing better to do..."

The hotel was physically in shambles and the rooms were dirty. The AC, phone, and blinds didn't work in our room. The pipes were rusted. You have to pay for internet and can only use it in the main lodge or activity center. In addition, they sent a van to pick us up with cracks in the windshield and the interior was extremely dirty. We arrived in the evening, planning to stay two nights, and instead checked out early the next morning.

To be honest, we only took a day trip out there from Fairbanks. 60 miles of boring pine and cypress on each of road.
On arrival, near the parking lot was for me, an animal lover, an infuriating sight. Four or five horses in a small pen each tied to the fence with about 4 feet of rope. They were standing under dripping trees in black mud puddles. It was heartbreaking how they were dozing in and out from boredom.
Their barn looked shabby and completely dark. They offer horseback riding so i guess the horses there were supposed to make you want to do the trails. I can't even stand to think about their winters.
We should have turned around and left, but we came for lunch.
Horrible over- fried duck jerky and crab cakes. Doughy dense cakes with zero taste of crab.
The spring pool looked inviting and people seemed to be having fun in it.
We left as soon as we ate and looked at the springs. The whole place was depressing and thinking of the poor horses ruined my whole trip to Fairbanks. Is selling some trail riding really that important?
