“Fantastic Bakery”

Pastelaria Charlotte
Ranked #1 of 1 Dessert in Almancil
Description: This is a pastry shop, take out only, but it is probably the best in the Algarve. Recommended: Almond tarta to die for, unbelievably good; almond cookies; bolo rei at Christmastime, and more. Also breakfast pastries. Closes at 1:30 so go in the morning.

Charlotte's cakes are worth every cent. They are just the best. We save up more so we can go to Charlotte's than to a restaurant. Very, very highly recommended. We paticularly enjoy their pasteis de natas. Will buy a whole or half an almond roll. Even our non-almond loving friends enjoy those! Go for it. Treat yourself. It is not a restaurant.

I just had the pleasure of enjoying the pastries at Charlotte's and am so glad we stopped in! We bought half an almond torte which was moist and delectable and I also felt it important to try a plain croissant just to check out the breads. It too was great- nice and fresh and quite dense. As we were paying, we were also offered some incredibly delicious cream tarts with a fabulously flaky puff pastry-like crust. They were warm from the oven and simply irrestible! We ate them immediately! Other patrons had equally great looking pastries- the strawberry tart and chocolate cake are next on my list to try on my next visit. This was my very first visit to a Portuguese pastry shop so I am glad my first experience was so sublime. Thanks to everyone who has written about this wonderful establishment.

Now if you are in the golden triangle on your holiday this is a must. It's easy enough to find just being on the corner near the school - look for the aluminium sliding doors which make it look a little shut up at times. Once inside you are met with the most amazing smell of baking. Browse the conter for what you want and try some of the samples often on the top. What is available changes from day to day - I am not a massive fan if sweet things and cakes but these just blow you away. The pastry is just beautiful and the cakes and creamy stuff and so fresh. Sometimes you can't just buy slices of the cakes as they sell them as a whole but there is usually enough of a selection - or just buy e whole thing as the prices are so reasonable it hardly matters (and I reckon you'll eat it anyhow!). My favourite is the apple tart - great to buy for a dinner party and fake bake it!

We found this place by chance. The cakes are wonderful. The quiche are lovely , but be warned, you have to buy the whole quiche , which is large but excellent value for money.
Their savoury pies and pasties are lovely. Definitely the place to buy your pic-nic lunch--there are no tables or chairs--it is take away only.
