This dazzling waterfront restaurant impresses equally with its décor and high-brow air as it does with its food.

From the faint, intermittent strumming of the Buena Vista Social Club over venue speakers, to the butterscotch booths and mellow fireplace, it is an effort not to be at ease.

The showstoppers at Sebastian were the Coca de Tomate (tomato tart with Shaw river buffalo curd) and the Flinders Island Lamb Neck (Mojo, local saltbush, white beans, Jamon, pimiento piquillo) – with the latter so appreciably tender, light effort with a spoon could cause it to crumble.

The most scenic place to arrive to this bayside suburb is with the Williamstown Ferry and work up an appetite walking from Gem Pier, through the Botanic Gardens and along the beach. Takes a casual hour. There is plenty of retail looking along Douglass Parade and Ferguson Street where our destination finds satisfaction seated with magic water views and tasty tapas. Food has a Spanish influence. Nicely done.

Went there for a special occasion meal with my mum. We chose from the banquet menu at the front of the menu. It was perfect. Dishes came out at an easy, steady pass.
Comfortable, relaxed vibe. Casual dining.
Food was inspired from the Basque region of Spain, hence the name Sebastian. Views of the beach are stunning.
Staff are friendly and helpful.
We dined there after watching a segment from channel 9’s tv show, postcards.

This restaurant is in a great location, right on the beach. The decor is also very good, including linen table napkins. Unfortunately we were very disappointed with the food and based upon my eating experiences this is rare. We decided to have a small plate and one large plate of the smoked chicken. The small plate of Spanish rice was sloppy, tasteless and inedible. This was brought to the attention of the wait staff who passed on our concerns to the chef. To the credit of the restaurant we were not charged for this course. The big plate of chicken was on its own with no accompanying vegetables, starch or legumes. It was tasty though.

Hi Joybelle,
I am sorry you didn't enjoy the rice - but glad the wait staff dealt with the matter appropriately.
Our menu is based around share plates with the idea being you can mix and match different dishes to make the meal of your choice. This is why our Smoked Chicken is not accompanied by any vegetables, starch or legumes.
At the start of the dining experience our wait staff explain the food concept and provide recommendations for the number of dishes to order. This is intended to ensure the best possible experience for you, however you are welcome to deviate from this if you prefer.
Kind Regards
Alex

We came during the evening on a cool cool April. Enjoyed having the live band with beer watching the sun go down. The food selection wasn’t exactly the greatest but the place still makes a great place to hang out with friends
