Stayed here with a friend for a few nights exploring the Blue Mountains and we had a lovely time. Yes, there were some issues with check in as it took nearly 2 hours for our room to be ready + waiting for towels when we eventually got in but it was made better by Erin the Covid Marshall who kept us up to date and helped us along the way. Our room was bigger than expected and we found the restaurants to be good - even with the limited menu. The ONLY major issue we had was the handling of the pool. Tried to book a session outside but had to go inside as it was “fully booked” only to be splashed and kicked at an overcrowded indoor pool. They had gone out of their way to be covid safe and clean and yet this was horrible! We left after 5 minutes. Plus the outdoor pool was nearly empty- we could not understand! Although we are not the target market for the hotel (single mid 20s) we had a great time and would happily come here again.

We stayed 3 night, booked 3 rooms, 6 people in our group. During this time our room was never made up properly, no tissues for 2 days, no towels or bath mats in the room despite calling front desk twice and house keeping once I also walked to front desk asking where I could get towels as we had restaurant booking. Finally towels arrive 30 minutes later. The tea, coffee, milk and cups was never replaced. I had to go to foyer to get more, to be offered decaf as they had no real coffee.

I understand reduced house keeping during Covid but towels and coffee is a minimum.

The halls always have room service plates and a trolley of dirty laundry has been in the hall for 2 days. They finally removed laundry sitting on the floor in the 3 neighboring room doorways, 24 hours after our arrival, only after we asked.

Had planned a week at Fairmont followed by a week at Sebel Kiama. Our fourteen year old granddaughter accompanied us. Frankly we found the restrictive environment quite depressing. To their credit we were able to move on to Kiama early as Fairmont graciously allowed us to cut short our stay. Two different worlds, as we enjoy beautiful beaches & ocean pools at leisure. Dining quality variety & freedom great too.
I have had a long association with Fairmont, firstly in its hay day with work conferences & then later with our grandchildren. We now realize it’s a place our grandkids have outgrown. As a couple we would not consider it any longer. We are happier to pay for other options in the mountains. I must comment on the carpet in the bar/ lounge area.... absolutely filthy!! & complimentary decent nibbles with drinks an absurd proposition !!! Rather than a resort it’s standard is more aligned to the old guesthouses of days gone by., without the dormitories. Horses for courses, !!
To be fair lovely staff who must also feel the current pressure
