Description: Set in the historic Savoy picture theatre building, Avalon Restaurant & Cocktail Bar at Katoomba combines playful art-deco charm with hearty food, friendly service and spectacular Blue Mountains views. Located on main street Katoomba, enter the historic Savoy picture theatre foyer and make your way past the ticket booth and up the stairs. The restaurant inhabits the dress circle of the old theatre, and offers a decor of quirky retro finds and spectacular mountain views over Leura and the Jamison Valley. Meals are prepared in the old projection room, and cocktails and retro tunes are served in the former refreshment lounge, now a cosy bar complete with roaring fireplace. The art deco architecture is complemented by an eclectic collection of furnishings and artwork. The style of service is casual and friendly. Licensed and BYO wine.

My partner and I eat out every week at least once and have traveled extensively.
The efficient and friendly service the quality of the meals are second to none.
The ambiance and amazing mountain views are truly magnificent.
Dillon and David the new owners cannot do enough for you.
The food such as the slow roasted lamb and their steaks cannot be beaten.
If you have room please try the delicious home made deserts.
The High Teas are a wonderful treat.
If you book on Friday evening they have enjoyable live music.
Make Avalon your lunch or dinner destination and you will be back for more.

What a wonderful restaurant! This is my second trip to the Avalon. When we arrived we seated by our quirky waiter who I think may have been the owner. He joked with us during the night and provided great customer service. Our meals were yummy. I would highly recommend the vegetable platter.

Slight miscommunication resulted in our order not being taken and having a bit of a wait but the staff went above and beyond to make sure this was corrected and we enjoyed an exceptional meal - the shredded beef croquette special and a glass of delicious rosè. Will definitely be back.

This is a quirky restaurant one level up in an old 1930s Art Deco theatre. There is a lounge bar and long dining room on different levels. The place is decorated with quirky 30s memorabilia.
All that said this place did not work for us. The main thing was the ad-hoc service. A simple round of pre-dinner drinks at our table took for ever to arrive and shortly after they did the first course arrived. This was sashimi and barramundi fishcakes. These were Ok just not very exciting. I had the crusted steak with horseradish cream and large chips and mushrooms. The steak was a bit chewy to be medium rare and the crust was a waste of time. Partner had a warm chicken salad, again ok but not exciting. No complaints about the portion size.
I wouldn't dismiss this place and it seemed that maybe as a group booking it's fun. We just felt we were isolated from the service.
