“Great place to stay as a traveller!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 April 2012

We stayed at Base Airlie Resort and it was great! We had a private en-suite room for four nights and it was really cheap and worth every penny!
We had a double bed and a bunk-bed, a TV and a kitchen and the en-suite was massive and had a jacuzzi bath.
The location was great! At the top of the high street so it was quiet at night, about a 2 minute walk to the lagoon from the resort.
The high street had everything you would need food and shopping wise and to walk from the top of the high street to the bottom to a maximum of 5minutes!
The staff were very helpful and organised all of our activities which were also amazing and I would highly recommend when visiting AIrlie Beach!
There was also a restaurant and bar attached to the resort, which had nice food and cheap drinks!
Would definitely return!

Room Tip: Private room with en-suite does not cost much and is a nice change from regular hostels!

This is a pretty cool place, small rooms with washrooms, mini fridge and counter tops, a few plugs around the room to recharge. The rooms are broken up into a compound style with 4rooms to a building, makes it a pretty quiet place at night, depending on your roomates. No byo makes it an expensive place to get drunk, the bar does a decent $10 meal and beer deal, but pints go for 6-8$ after that so go easy. global gossip internet in all the rooms, expensive way to stay in touch back home. If your here to party stay somewhere else, if your just in for one night before the whitsundays this is a good place to catch up on sleep.

I enjoyed my stay at this hostel, the rooms were clean and decent size and the bathroom even had a bath. The kitchen was not big enough and didn't have enough equipment. Literally had to wait 30minutes until a saucepan was free and then wait longer for a plate ect. And it closed at 9pm which was annoying as I like to eat later usually when it's not so busy. The other annoying thing was check in wasnt until 2pm and there is a greyhound and premiere bus arriving around 9am so you would expect them to have changed it a little earlier. The pool was clean, not many sunlongers, though I'd recommend going to the lagoon instead which is just across the road. There was a really good deal at the down under bar which was $10 for food and drink and the food was really nice.

Fairly standard for a hostel in Australia. The Kitchen is poorly equipped for the amount of people that stay at the hostel, and none of the stoves are labelled so you're constantly playing a guessing game as to which burner is on, or how hot it is.
We stayed in a 5 bed dorm and one of the beds had bed bugs in it. The rooms are equipped with A/C which is nice, but ours was touchy, and it would flip the breaker, so we would be without AC in the middle of the night until they switched it back in the morning. Our bathroom was very dated and the tile was pretty gross on the floor, we could see dirt clumps in the corners.

The kitchens were clean, they had a guest that cleaned them two/three times a day, so they were alright to use if you could find the proper cooking utensils. The lounge area is average, a single couch with a television, and three picnic tables to eat dinner on. There was a pool available but we didn't use it. Internet was provided by global gossip and was 8$/day unlimited use for wifi.

If you're looking for something very simple, it would be an alright stay. But we expected more, we were very unimpressed with the bed bugs, dirty floors, and poorly equipped kitchens. Plus's were the Air Conditioning, Fridges in the room and the kitchen was often clean. It was also reasonably close to the center of town, but it's a tiny town, you could stay anywhere and be minutes from anything.

I loved this hostel! it was well situated with all amenities not more than 5 minutes away, the rooms were brilliant with air con and en suite, all the facilities were great, the staff were very moody and unfriendly which put a downer on the hostel.
