Reminded me of Benidorm

After arriving to our resort we were immediately disappointed. Decor tired and old just like their clientele which would have been fine if it wasn't overbooked and crowded!!! With only one bar for the evening which was located near reception not even by the beach, I had no enthusiasm to go out after dark. Even if you did venture out you would spend the majority of your time queuing or being told off for walking around with drinks and then they turn the lights off on you at 11pm. We were hopeful that the daytime would be better however when we walked out onto the beach we were bombarded with tacky plastic sun loungers. The view was disappointing, this was meant to be paradise and for 3 grand I felt sick. The place reminded me of havens with their tacky singing and dancing during the day around their only tired looking swimming pool which would be pumped through their sound system all day!!! Their theme tune will forever haunt me. To have a good time we left the resort every day as you could walk a could of hours into town and we were able to gate crash another hotels strip of beach which was secluded, quiet and blissful. This part of the island by the sounds of it is the best place to stay with their paradise beaches, tropical back drop and town just down the road for a bit of culture however this hotel was not for us. There are nicer places to stay down the beach which are closer to town.
We complained on the first day as it was obvious it was overbooked and the staff were not Hiding this fact. We made friends with other couples and they were transferred to another hotel however even with our formal complaint we never had the same offer and was forced to endure our stay with queuing everywhere we went. We did not find our Thomson rep helpful in the resort and was left unhappy. The rules are ridiculous, limiting you to eat in their a la carte restaurants only 3 times a week forcing you to eat in their buffet and men refused entry if they are not wearing long trousers at the restaurants. You can't walk around the resort with a glass either and will get jumped by a member of staff to pour it into a plastic cup. Classy! I was not impressed after staying in other 5* resorts over the world. Overall it's not a 5* but maybe a 4* and that's only because of the quality of food they serve here. If you are looking for a quiet, secluded, exclusive resort this is not the one for you.

Beach was lovely - good length - you could walk for many miles, and it was clean - downfall - there were reefs that cut the waves, and coral clumps and vegetation prevented the whole beach area to have good run in swimming. If the water features (reef etc) had been to one side, swimming would have been much better. the "reef" did provide close up viewing of small fish, and kept the children and their parents amused, but beaches are for running around in the water - not carefully avoiding other things.
Food was mediocre at best, and even when the called their buffet theme nights "international" or whatever, it was the same foods, different names. By the way, guys, dress code seems to be whatever. Supposed to be dress pants, closed toed shoes and nice shirt - but jeans or sweats, falling apart sneakers and scrubby t's seem to be acceptable attire. No class anywhere.
Staff are usually agreeable, but also a lot will ignore you - even if you speak spanish.
Promised rooms aren't - close to the beach translates to near the road. Top floor means main floor. No one pays attention to anything other than what they want - not you.
Do not listen to the "we're overbooked so we are offering cayo Levantado for a few days - it's an upgrade" because you will end up at the Luxury b.p. Samana - lovely hotel, but promises again are ignored and they will always have proof that that is not what they promised. Untrustworthy.
Great waterpark for the kids. wish adults could use it. Lots of things for the kids to do, and there is some fun things for the adults as well - dance lessons, dance exercise in the pool, a couple of "shows"', piano, jazz sax in the evening. the a la carte restaurants are fairly good, but watch out for the one waiter in the french restaurant who personifies the "french waiter" theme - you know the only who looks down his nose at you and sneers. Not funny nor appropriate.
Too many people seemed to claim two chairs per person - one at the beach and the other at the pool. Sometimes you could only spread your towel on the beach if you wanted to be there, but this is a visitor concern, not staff.
Overall - what do you want for a low cost all inclusive. We may be too picky, but others have the same complaints.
As they say - you pays your money and takes your chances.

This all inclusive is the best we have experienced to date. We would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing vacation, with clean rooms, excellent food, a breath taking beach, impeccable well kept grounds and a wonderful staff who can't do enough to make your stay a great one. It is a smaller resort, there is not much nightlife around but it was everything we wanted. Met some wonderful people from around the world who made our stay even more enjoyable. We would definitely go back.

Room tip: We were in room 8301 - it was a quiet area and located a few minutes from the beach. stairs to climb but we didn't mind.

This is nice resort. The beach is beautiful and you can walk for quite a while along the beach. The water is very clear. The layout of the resort is very pretty. It is surrounded by gardens and walkways. The staff is very friendly. Two restaurants that are a must to try are the Rodizio and Orquedia. The Italian restaurant is pretty good too. I would rate this as a 4 star resort. If I could make a suggestion. The buffet is much too small when the resort is completely full. There is a often a waiting line. I don't like to wait in line for a buffet. The layout of the buffet needs to be changed to allow the servers easier access to changing the food. Often the servers are trying to get at the buffet to change the food and the customers are in the way. The beach barman makes great Bloody Caesars.

My wife and I went with our 3 kids for a week to attend a family member's wedding. This was our first time in DR and we thought it was great. The resort was very family friendly, the staff were great and there was no shortage of things to do.

The kids had a great time in the kiddie pool (actually a small water park) area which had staff that kept a very close eye on the kids, made sure nobody was running and actually helped the littlest one up and down the stairs (great to see that level of attentiveness). The larger family pool area was clean and we never had to fight for chairs. The beach also had good chair availability and had nice white sand.

The main buffet restaurant is huge and always had a good variation of food from day to day. We only went to 2 a la carte restaurants (the Brazilian and Italian) and they were both good - just make sure to dress appropriately as they did turn away some people.

The rooms were large, clean and very well maintained. The property is huge so be prepared to walk if you end up in one of the distant villas. Lots of activities and shows for the kids. We had a free hour of paddle boat or kayak but they make you wear a t-shirt under the life vest (for hygienic reasons) and our spot on the beach was too far away so unfortunately we never got a chance to go back.

There were some very minor things to complain about but all-in-all we were pleasantly surprised and happy with the resort. We would probably go back again.
