In cooler weather it would be a lovely place to walk around. Mathew Flinders lookout is a great place to overlook Port Augusta. Great plant shop and wonderful meals. Worth stopping and taking the time to visit.

The lunches are simple and good in a nice humble coffee shop. The setting is nice with good views to the red sands and the A/C is refreshing.

Could do better coffee but it’s worth visiting.

The gardens are fully designed by the landscape architect, well planned and interesting. It showcases Australian dessert plants but also includes imported plants from arid areas all over the world. There is a cafe, gift shop and interpretative center available. This botanical garden has friendly hours of operation - basically till sunset.

Thanks so much for your review - I will just correct you on one thing, we focus on plants from Arid zones around Australia but not from other countries though. All the best.

As an introduction to the flora of Australia’s vast arid zones, an afternoon spent wandering here cannot be beaten. Well laid out and sign-posted, you can wander the paths just for the sense of an Aussie explorer. The cafe is good for lunch too.

Located just outside Port Augusta on The Stuart Highway, the park has several interesting walks including a Children's walk. Excellent botanical displays, souvenir shop and café. Well worth a visit- and even better- it is free to enter!

Finally got a chance to visit after passing though Port Augusta.
Lots to see and well marked out paths and information there. large shady car park.
We had coffee and cake before exploring then came back for lunch which was a platter of local produce plus a variety of local ice creams.
Service was a bit slow but then the place was full and it was holidays.

Been meaning to visit every time we pass through Port Augusta and finally we made the effort. If you have any interest at all in gardening and/or Australian flora then you will enjoy this garden. Very easy walks take you through a variety of landscapes with informative signage complimenting the experience. Nice cafe before and after your walk.

Very well organised, lots of information as you move around. There are a number of walks of different durations to choose from, from quick walks around the gardens close to the visitors centre to 2.5hr walks around the outer rim. Even if you don't have time to look at the gardens, the cafe, gift shop and nursery were also great and it was all I could do to resist buying up a few eremophila to take home with me ( I wasn't traveling home immediately and I don't think they would have appreciated a few days in the car). I only had a few hours free, and that was enough to spend mostly in the areas close to the visitors centre and cafe. I would love to go back for a whole day and see more.
