We were looking for a quiet place to stay in the Whangarei area as most of our hotels had been in cities. Kauri Villas is just off the road out to Whangarei Heads. It is a quiet and beautiful setting with water views. The inn is run by two very capable sisters who made us feel welcome immediately and helped us plan our time around Whangarei and the Bay of Islands.

We had a very comfortable three room suite that was more than we needed, but delightful to enjoy. We didn't have time to use the pool outside our bedroom, but it looked delightful. Breakfasts were delicious and very complete.

The only other guests were a family with a young child. He seemed to enjoy the freedom of running around the grounds and visiting with the sheep. It seemed like a great location to bring children.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Colonial Suite. It had very nice views of the Harbor from a comfortable porch. (See photo.)

From the moment you come up the driveway to the host greeting it is a fabulous experience. The villa is stunning with charm and history and the views are to die for. Just the usual low key Kiwi unassuming charm, distinction, and breathtaking views. The meal was beautiful all freshly prepared and breakfast complete with homemade spreads. I hadn't even completed day one and I was thinking when can I come back again and who can I bring to share this discovery with. I live in NZ and am extensively travelled and didn't realise that more beautiful places existed. Would not hesitate to return and recommend.

Room Tip: Colonial suite

We had two families holiday here for a week. The layout of the lodge provides ample privacy for each family while still being in the same location. The managers were very friendly and helpful which assisted in ensuring that we had an enjoyable time. We would recommend this lodge.

Prefect place to stay for the Spokeswomen Weekend away. We took over the Kohinui Lodge and the Magnolia Suite. Beautiful Setting for a weekend getaway. Loved soaking in the spa and going for a walk down into the gully. Highly recommend this place to take a group of people. Thanks Pauline for looking after us this weekend. The girls LOVED staying here. You have found a piece of NZ paradise, thanks for sharing it with us
