Owner description: Take a step back in time, when things were a little more relaxed, when pioneering men and women of the 19th century succeeded in taming this wild Mallee landscape. Your self-guided tour among an enormous collection of working tractors and machinery; homes, cottages, and displays will entertain all ages. Feel the heat in the blacksmith shop, listen to the sounds of the old Pianola or take a ride through our Mallee township on a horse and carriage. Cruise the river aboard the historic PS Pyap or Join us as the sun goes down with the award-wining Laser Light Spectacular ‘Heartbeat of the Murray’. The first of its kind in the world to use a natural river environment and setting as its background to produce a 360-degree multi-media spectacular unlike anything ever seen in Australia.

We travelled by bus with our Probus group for the night show but you could see the old buildings as you walked down to the seating for the show

We visited over the long weekend and had a great time walking about and reading stories and information about the old timey way of life.
We had a two month old and almost all areas were pram friendly.
Ultimately we visited as my husband wanted to revisit, after being on a school excursion many moons ago.
Free horse and car rides were a lovely touch. Cheap food at the cafe. Friendly staff and live music in the Main Street.
The only small complaint was many of the areas (post office etc) didn’t have any staff inside so you couldn’t interact with that building. Possibly we were at each spot at the wrong time? Or it may be as it was a Sunday.
Overall a fun day and we will visit again when our bub is older and do the light and sound show.

I first visited the pioneerSettlement the year it opened, then again about 8 years ago. Was very impressed with it each time, but today's visit was even better. Very authentic and informative exhibitions, helpful staff, and a delicious Devonshire Tea. My friend was visiting for the first time and was very impressed. Think all Australians should visit to see how tough the conditions were for our country pioneers.

What a lovely place to visit. There are lots of activities through the day, better if you go in the morning around 9.30 or you could miss some.
We booked in for the 3 in 1 tours, including the River boat and the evening Laser light show. Both were excellent.
The part 3 is the exploring of the settlement village. There is lots to see so give yourself plenty of time. We actually took two days to get around everything.
