We stayed at the Hotel Urban a few weeks ago for three nights. Needing to be located in the St Kilda area, we couldn't have asked for a better located hotel. Step outside the front door and you're in the middle of Fitzroy Street and all it's restaurants and bars. You wouldn't guess from the quietness of the rooms.

The rooms are quite spacious and modestly appointed. Staying mid week, we had no trouble in parking in the secure hotel carpark. I've been told that it fills up quickly on weekends.

The staff are friendly and efficient, but don't expect personalised service.

Great value, great location.

Hi Plugga_Syd,

Our location is fantastic isn't it! We're so spoilt for restaurant and bar choices on Fitzroy Street.

An onsite car park is a really great perk for a hotel to have so we love that we can provide that for our guests.

Thank you for your review and we're glad that you had a carefree, "no fuss" stay with us.

Kind Regards

I've been a big fan of the Urban for years, but the last two visits have been a bit disappointing in housekeeping, general cleanliness and maintenance. Several rooms have minor, but easily fixed problems, if housekeeping were attentive, and my requesting maintenance doesn't always bring results. It seems like their budget might have been cut, plus they were down to just one computer for at least a month.

The location is perfect for my taste, and the reception staff always friendly and make me feel remembered and welcome. I wish I could find a hotel like this in New York.

My biggest complaint on the last two visits, which has caused me to look elsewhere for a better view from windows, is the removal of scrim shades for the windows, which was an option for privacy, letting in light, allowing subtle view outdoors while prohibiting view inside the room. They still have solid shades, but if you want to have natural light and see out the windows, then neighbors, and several hotel room windows can look right into your room. I hope they will in the future add sheer curtains at least, or return to the neat and effective scrim approach. And housekeeping really could do a better job cleaning around the windows, and tell maintenance the toilet tissue holder is falling off the wall.

Room Tip: Try the Greek restaurant across the street for a delicious meal with huge portions (leftovers for lu...

Hi Robin B,

We're sorry to hear about the housekeeping issues that you have experienced on your last two visits to us. We're spoilt for choice with our location as Fitzroy Street is out the front door, Acland Street is just around the corner and St Kilda Beach is a 5 minute walk from our door! Our friendly staff love making our guests feel right at home and have a real talent for remembering familiar faces.

The sheer curtains were removed as we had complaints about them from other guests. We are always updating and refreshing our hotel, so we will take your comments into consideration.

Thanks so much for pointing out the toilet tissue holder issue. We would love to get this fixed straight away and would really appreciate it if you could please email us the room number you were staying in. You can reach me at socialmedia@erdigroup.com.au

Thank you for your honest review and we hope you come visit us in the future.

Kind Regards

We stayed at hotel urban last weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We had booked a round room and had 2 emails confirming but on arrival they had given the room to someone else. To be fair, the guy at reception immediately acknowledged this mistake and said they would move the other people into the correct room - about 15 minutes later we were able to enter our room. The bed looked lovely but there were a couple of dire things in regard to housekeeping - when we opened the curtains behind was filthy (see photo) and there were two hideously filthy glasses left by the bottle of red, plus a pube in the sink....mmmm noice....
We called and asked for new glasses and they arrived promptly. Later the same nice guy from reception told us that the glasses were from the people who were incorrectly in our room (hope they didn't use the bed!!). I guess the hair must have been from them too. Fair enough, but the dirty windowsills could have been cleaner and there are quite a few broken tiles etc. too.
That being said, I found the staff great, the breaky was pretty yummy (although my husband’s pancakes were served cold and both meals took forever to arrive), it's in a great location and the spa is terrific as is the bed. There is also off street parking which is good.
I would probably give it another chance

My friend and I traveled across Australia this February and stayed at the Urban while in Melbourne. St. Kilda definitely was the right choice in terms of location. Fritzroy area was considered but St. Kilda worked best. Looking at other reviews we decided to stay at the Urban. The hotel definitely satisfied out requirements. The room was small, but clean. It had two twin beds and was very comfortable overall. The bathroom had amenities for two people and house keeping was done on a daily basis. The location on Fritzroy street can get very busy during the weekend but that was no trouble at all for us. There are enough bars and restaurants on Fritzroy street and the beach is only about 5 mins walk away. The tram also stops right outside the hotel to take you to CBD or Fritzroy. Overall good location and hotel.

Hi Yeshwant N,

Fitzroy is a great suburb, but you just can't beat St Kilda ;-) Our location is one of the many great positives of our hotel - although with so many great bars, restaurants and cafes nearby sometimes it's hard to choose.

We hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in Australia and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

I stayed at the Hotel Urban only a few weeks ago, it was very disappointing. Outside our hotel room door there was a massive hole in the ceiling, which showed all the pipe work etc. It was evident that other areas of the ceiling had also been touched up and filled in to a poor standard. No milk was provided in the room to accompany the coffee and tea making facilities, despite asking at reception several times we managed to catch the house keepers. We had breakfast one morning which was average, the room is very dark and the lighting could do with being better. Our room was not cleaned to a high standard and we had mentioned that the duvet was stained and it was just wrapped between two sheets, however this never got changed and we got sick of asking. When coming back to the hotel at night there are a lot of homeless people asking for money which is a bit off putting. The only positive was the location and use of the MACs for free. My tip is save your money and book somewhere else.

Hi Kylie1810,

Sorry to hear that the hotel wasn’t to your liking and that you didn’t enjoy your time. It’s disappointing to hear that you thought breakfast was average as we usually get rave reviews. Hopefully your next stay in Melbourne is more enjoyable.

Kind Regards
