So very impressed with our visit to the barking dog today! The table service was second to none. Extremely friendly and professional staff. The food was beautiful. Arincini balls and croquettes absolutely beautiful. For a main I tried their vegan option, the vegan mac and cheese with vegetables. It was delicious! Everyone on the table had a try and they all really enjoyed it. The steaks were beautiful, all cooked well. The parmis were perfectly cooked. I tried the pornstar martini, very sweet but absolutely delicious! Would definitely come here again!

We were visiting family in Geelong and we had previously visited the Barking Dog before, last time (about 4 yrs ago) it was a bit dark and dingy looking but this time it was different as the place looked much brighter and cleaner.

We had lunch there and it was very nice, i had the ploughmans platter which i really enjoyed, the other people in my group had varying dishes and they all enjoyed their meals including the kids that were with us.

Decent enough selection of craft beer on offer and had to sample a guinness due to St Patricks Day as well.

Much better experience this time, cleaner, brighter and the staff were very good.

A very sub standard meal served by staff that really didn't want to be there
My Asian seared beef salad was 2 very small slices of beef with a salad that had no dressing on it at all
Sorry we won't be back

The Barking Dog has been a regular favourite over the past 14 or so years, and has been great during that time. More recently I haven't been overly impressed and today's experience will ensure I will look for other alternatives in the future.
Stood at the bar waiting for a staff member to serve for a good 5 minutes, may have been short staffed but obviously had a few prior bookings in so could have staffed accordingly.
Didn't find the staff friendly when they did serve, but that wasn't a big deal.
Ordered a Cambodian beef salad which was said to include pickled Asian herbs and a salad with a Thai dressing. Sounded great. $20. What came out was nothing like what was on the menu, and $20 was about double what it was worth. It was two slices of beef on a plate, next to it some vermicelli rice noodles with some sliced capsicum and spring onion. No dressing. Not sure where the pickled Asian herbs were but this was pathetic.
Told the waitress that I was very disappointed in the description versus why came out, asked for the calamari Greek salad instead (note this is something I would never do, goes to show how pathetic the beef salad was).
Waitress obliged and bought out the calamari Greek salad, which was as described but seriously the most basic Greek salad I have ever seen (cos, tomato wedges, feta and a few olives) with a few slices of squid on top. Presentation really basic and again at $20 was seriously overpriced for quality and quantity.
These dishes would have been kicked off Masterchef in a flash.
Disappointing because have loved The Dog over the years, but in future will go to The Telegraph a few blocks up the road.

Very happy with both the service and the meal quality, only complaint is that the meals were a bit small
