This is a comfortable hotel in an interesting converted convent. The room was well equipped and included a fridge and a stock of crockery and cutlery (though no cooking facilities). If we didn’t want to eat out we brought food back from the nearby supermarket and ate in the communal sitting room or on the communal balcony with fine views over Launceston town. This was useful as the hotel has no restaurant. We didn’t fancy the ‘continental breakfast box’ on offer so provided for ourselves or visited the excellent Cuccina Cafe across the street. We’d like to praise the young man who checked us in and who spent much time explaining the facilities and history of the hotel and advising us on local places of interest.

The ex-convent has been renovated, but due to heritage limitation, its creaky floors, doors & chipped decorative woodwork, reminds you of that.
Friendly, helpful reception & staff, with fairly clean bathrooms (the bathroom's bin & basin were not cleaned on our arrival) & standard quality bedding, cabinetry, desks & seating.
Location is brilliant. Close to the Gorge, CBD, parks, walks & foodie places. But being set on a hill, sounds can echo thru your room's open windows. (What's with leaf blowing @8am,from the quarter-hourly chiming cathedral!?)
The fast wifi inconveniently required a new voucher at irregular intervals.
I liked the hotel, my wife wasn't as cheery.
Good value for location.

What a gem and so close to the centre of town, that's where you will find the Auldington. A grand old lady and former convent which has been converted into modern and very comfortable and quiet accommodation. Just have a look at the thickness of the walls; the Auldington was built in a time when things were meant to last. Go for a room on the top floor overlooking the town for some brilliant views over Launceston. Don't worry about the stairs, the lift will quietly glide you to the correct floor.
The rooms are compact but comfortable. Ensuite, bed, bed-side tables, cupboard, TV, a couple chairs, writing desk and small dining table. But each floor has a brilliant guest lounge with an additional TV, library and magazines. If you are in an upper floor facing East, it is unlikely that you will spend much time in either room because your balcony is panoramic. Great views over the city, which can be enjoyed from your outdoor table and chairs. The bar fridge is over-stocked with typical and local snacks and drinks, but you might find this an inconvenience if you wish to put any cold food you purchase into the fridge.
As they say in real estate, location is everything and the Auldington is perfectly positioned. There is virtually nothing more than a ten minute walk away, including Coles, Woolworths, restaurants, the retail district, Budget rentacar, Japanese monkeys and the famous Cataract Gorge.
The staff are also very helpful and knowledgeable of tourist places to visit and the best way to get there. They will also provide you with a better map than that of the Launceston Tourist Bureau, plus discount vouchers.
Our joy of the Auldington was only compromised by property maintenance. In places, the paint appears old and well damaged, perhaps by the suitcases of too many guests. Our bathroom had significant patches of black mould and the venetian blinds were bent and dusty. If you can overlook these concerns, the Auldington is a quiet and relaxing place to stay.

The room was comfortable and quite spacious. And the bed was very comfortable. The location of the Auldington was close to everything and had easy off-street parking. Good value and good service. It was lovely having the garden at the front of the premises and the fruit trees in the back were good to see, maybe in need of a little TLC. The manager was very responsive and approachable.
