Pokey, incredibly noisy, cold, poorly lit, and worn out. The power points are bizarrely placed so that if you want to boil water in the kettle provided you can't do that job anywhere else than the bathroom - which is actually dangerous. As for the noise, the pub is directly below and open at one end of the building to upstairs so that you can hear people retching on their excessive booze as well as yelling and heavy music. The stairs are poorly lit. My friend in his 70s fell down the stairs because he couldn't see properly. Fortunately he wasn't hurt, which was just as well. As for the cold rooms, the heating facility isn't properly maintained. We changed rooms because the heater in the first room didn't work. Yes, it's cheap and convenient to town, but it isn't worth staying there. On a positive note, there is free wifi and the staff are friendly, albeit not terrible efficient.

Room tip: Go somewhere else.

Great disappointment,it is an old hostel with small room and no service or reception any time you have to go to the bar for checking in or out,the room is very cold ,serviced once only during a week stay,
No parking anywhere even for checking you have to drive round and round to eventually find a street parking with one hour limit at $2.60 so you can check in,
Only suitable for backpacker,
We left three day before our week.

I chose the hotel for one night as it was cheap.
It was OK for the money, but the noise from the nightclub below was horrific.
To be fair, I retrospectively noticed on the website a mild warning about the noise.
The room, bed, bathroom and after hours access were all acceptable. (Wish I'd seen it at first!}
But back to the noise, despite the room's thick door and double glazing of the window, it exceeded the loudest common Australian standard for noise: ie "Two skeletons making love on a tin roof, using a jam tin for a condom".
Again, to be fair, the sound orgy finished about 1 to 1.30 am, and I know a lot of nightclubs exceed this.

Room tip: Try and get the room elsewhere!

I had a single room with en-suite for three nights as part of a group of four solo travellers. The staff were very warm, helpful & friendly and my room was fine for both the first and second nights but I was feeling a bit cramped by the third: there was not enough space to open the drawer in the wardrobe; only two functioning power-points were in the bathroom meaning that kettle and toaster juggled with toothbrush, charger and hairdryer; and there was no natural light because the window was covered by a blind. It was cheap and cheerful, so if you want fluffy towels changed daily go somewhere else, but if you like to conserve water, the smell of woodsmoke from the downstairs bar fire, a comfortable warm bed and being extremely conveniently located at the centre of Launceston, Star Bar Cafe & Hotel could be for you.

Room tip: Rooms away from the street are quieter.

The hotel or the Rooms are not worth the price you pay - It was a small pokey room with a tiny Single bed and that rather uncomfortable to sleep on (the clear and obvious thing in a hotel is that the "bed" should be the most important item) The bathroom was the largest feature in the room, plenty of space through a rather small shower ? Go figure -

It was at a reasonable rate when I picked it up though not a huge value for money - Pls reconsider if its well priced over $100....

the best thing it had going for it was that its just below the Star Bar or in the heart of the city.

Room tip: Reconsider ifs its priced well over $100 Per Night
