“Big apartment, big view, great value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2012

We had a three day break at Coolangatta - the quieter, family friendlier, end of the Gold Coast strip. We only needed a 1 br unit, but were allocated a 2 br, 2 bathroom unit at a 1 br price on the 11th floor, with sweeping views from the lounge and main br northwards over the beach, with Surfer's Paradise clearly visible in the distance. It was off-peak season, and we arrived without a booking, having checked out alternatives on Trip Advisor. We were able to negotiate a discount over their posted rates on the web.

Our unit was recently renovated, with modern bathrooms and kitchen. The main bathroom also had a laundry. The kitchen was well set up - everything required for 6 guests. There was a large dining area, and lounge with flat screen TV (the main br also had a smaller, wall mounted TV).

The lounge / dining / kitchen area had a good sized air conditioner, but the bed rooms had only ceiling fans - the one in the main br was quite noisy and needed service. The reliance on a single a/c was not a major problem during our stay in autumn, but I imagine in peak summer it would struggle to keep the whole unit cool; the unit faced north west, so got full sun from midday onwards, and was quite hot until we closed the heavy curtains.

Apart from the noisy fan, the only negative from our stay was the lounge - actually a sofa bed - it was old, smelt musty, and was very soft - well overdue for replacement.

The location was excellent; directly opposite the beach, with great walking tracks, and above a large shopping centre, with supermarket, cinemas, and many restaurants.

We would definitely stay at Coolangatta, and at this property, again - though probably not in peak summer season.

Room Tip: Ask to see the room first - they are happy with this. Some rooms are not recently renovated. Some...

I booked a 1-br apartment and was allocated one on the 19th Floor facing N/NW. Plenty of Pros: great vista, beach across the road, lots of yummy cafes/restaurants near by; easy parking. Cons: I booked a Queen-sized bed, but got a double bed instead; the vent in the bathroom was very noisy and couldn't be switched off; the bedsheets weren't clean (failed the "pubes check"); the glass door at Reception didn't work. I didn't complain to Reception because I wanted to stay on the 19th Floor. Good thing too as I could hear screaming kids on the lower levels. I would definitely come back to Coolangatta again, but won't be staying at Points North.

2nd time we have stayed. Fast checkin. Alloacated parking so no dramas. The 2 bedroom apartments are one of the largest in Coolangatta (have stayed in about 6). Fantastic heated pool and spa, lovely bbq facilities next to the pool and tennis courts. Great park and beach across the road, best position 3 mins walk to all the restaurants and cafes in the main street of coolangatta. Shopping centre underneath, so dont have to leave the building. Will stay again and again...loved it...best holiday :)

Room Tip: Both the rooms I have stayed in had amazing views and were extremely spacious.

We booked our unit, one of only 3 at Points North managed by them, through Rainbow Bay Realty. As we've found in the past they are great to deal with, friendly & helpful, and also much cheaper than booking direct. However you do have to supply your own linen at that price, otherwise it costs $15 per person.
We 3 adults stayed in unit 131 on the 20th floor. It is on the south-eastern side of the building. No views of Surfers Paradise from that angle but the views over Coolangatta & Greenmount Beaches as well as Rainbow Bay and Snappers Rock, plus the views over the Tweed River and hinterland mountains more than makes up for the loss of views to Surfers!
Our unit had been renovated with modern bathrooms & kitchen. We had a large LCD tv, dvd player & Austar in the lounge room plus an older flat screen tv in the main bedroom. Views from any part of the unit were fantastic.
The best thing about staying in Points North however is the location! It is only a lift ride to Aldi supermarket, various shops, Coolangatta Hotel, several cafes & coffee shops, chemist, doctor, cinema chain, you name it. There are 3 very fast lifts so never any waiting. We parked our car on arrival & did not use it again during the whole week there!
The pool section is excellent and there is a tennis court plus BBQ area, all on the 2nd floor.
This is our 2nd stay there (also in March), previously we were on the 8th floor, staying in a unit in the middle of the building with views to Surfers etc. However we found that the main bedroom was hotter during the day, also the lights from the surf club & Marine Parade meant we had to keep the main bedroom curtain shut at night. So we much preferred the location of the unit on the south-eastern side!

Room Tip: Higher floors not only have the best views but also are away from both traffic noise and the lights...
