Our GPS took us into the entry to the Gardens instead of to Harrigans.

When we drove in to the hotel and we couldn't work out where to find the reception area. There was due to the lack of signage and lots of renovation/construction works at the front of the hotel. There was large machinery, temporary tape and portable fencing. It didn't look good!

However, we checked into the rooms. Then we visited the pub and it was warm and welcoming! We were disappointed that we hadn't been advised of the renovations, however we soldiered on and were glad we did. Rooms 402 and 403 were nice with comfortable beds, high ceilings and really hot showers. The sliding door to our outdoor area didn't slide properly and the view was not really great (some dead looking plants in a pot).

There is a large portable fridge at the back of the pub and the noise from it was a bit annoying but we got used to it. A staff member would empty a bin full of bottles into a skip during the night which woke me up on two separate occasions.

We had several really good meals at the pub and the hot fires and the comfort in the hotel made up for everything. The breakfast was first rate. The staff looked after us and always greeted us warmly. The cleaning staff were friendly. There was coffee/tea and biscuits in our rooms. Some of the outside needs a bit of TLC to bring it up to date.

It was great as it was so close to wineries, cheese manufacturing, sparkling prossecco (bubbles), restaurants, chocolate, fudge and cider makers. Also, right near the Hunter valley gardens. A really great location!

One bad thing - the electronic keys only worked for 1 day at a time, we were there for 4 days and had to go to reception each day as our door would not open. We had no anger towards the staff, who handled this very professionally. It was just annoying.

I really enjoyed staying at the hotel. The car was parked at the front and the best bit was a lovely Irish speaking person at the reception desk. The were very professional.

Room Tip: If you need a really quiet room, it would be better to get the ones closest to the reception area, or at the far end to avoid fridge noise.

Guinness on tap is great just like in Ireland along with the Guinness Pie. Wednesday night cocktails are not good value and were greatly disappointing, tasting like lollie water.

Accomodation is lovely just like the staff. We used an Ocean Road voucher (3 for 2 nights) but were unable to get an upgrade.

The centrality of Harrigans location is also awesome.

Service was different. Our group of 10, dinner and drinks for a mate’s birthday.Last ordered, meals came first. First ordered and the meal came last. My lamb cutlets, salad and amazing chips came quick. Many ordered beef ribs and pork cutlet and wasn’t what was expected but tasty. Noisy and no seating after dinner probably due to renovations happening

Room was $210 a night, comfortable, warm, car spot right outside the door. The room was clean and comfortable and the location is right in Pokolbin only 500m down the road from the gardens and little shopping hub. Had a few kangaroos in our little courtyard which was nice. Yes someone said the beds were two singles pushed together, can confirm. Was ok.
The food was pretty expensive considering what we got. But was convenient for us at the time as it was late and we have toddlers. Breakfast was good. Staff were lovely and helpful. Bit of construction going on outside the pub itself at the moment but apart from having to walk around it to get into the pub it didn’t bother us. I would stay here again.

We arrived at Harrigans Pub just before 12pm. The place was already open so we went in to have a look. The sports bar section had tab and gaming facilities. A good place if you prefer this type of entertainment or hang out on Friday and Saturday nights. The interior of the bistro next door and the memorabilia displays on the wall created the warm ambience of the pub. The small tavern style menu was a good alternative to modern Australian menu offered by nearby vineyard restaurants. The adjacent cellar offered a wide variety of alcoholic drinks however, they didn’t carry the particular brand of the port wine that I wanted. Nevertheless the friendly shop keeper suggested to try another bottle shop in the area. If you’re looking to stay overnight, Harrigan’s pub provides accommodation. Just bear in mind that some areas of Harrigan’s pub are currently under construction.
